What happened?

In Colombia, near Medellin, a plane crashed with 72 passengers, among whom were footballers from the Brazilian club Chapecoense, who were to take part in the first final match of the Copa Sudamericana against the Colombian Atlético Nacional.

Right now, 25 people are known to have died. The full list of people who got on board is known - in addition to the players and the crew of the aircraft (there were 9 crew members), the leaders of Chapecoense, the coaching staff, technical staff, journalists and honored guests were present.

What team crashed?

Chapecoense is a little-known team in Russia, people familiar to our fans do not play for it. In 2014, Chapecoense entered the Brazilian Serie A for the first time since the 1970s. This autumn, for the first time in history, the club reached the final of the Copa Sudamericana, in South America it is an analogue of the Europa League.

How did it happen?

Citing Colombian sources, the Brazilian Globo writes that the plane lost contact with the ground shortly after midnight and crashed shortly before its scheduled arrival. Controllers lost contact with the pilots as the plane flew over the cities of La Seja and Aberhorral. The missing aircraft began flying at 15:35 local time from Sao Paulo, landing in Eastern Bolivia, in Santa Cruz de la Sierra.

The first pictures have already been received from the scene.

Why did this happen?

The mayor of the city of La Seja, Elkin Ospina, said that the cause of the plane crash was a lack of fuel. Another version, in an official release from the aviation authorities, says that the plane crashed due to a power failure.

What was the team flying?

The Chapecoense flew on charter aircraft CP-2933. At the beginning of the month, the Argentina national team flew on it.

The Air Force Colonel assures that the plane did not explode during the fall, which gives hope to find more survivors. At the same time, according to unconfirmed information, the plane split in half during the fall.

What do they say at the scene?

More than 90 rescuers from nearby cities - La Union, Rionegro, El Carmen de Vibroal and La Seja - are working on a rescue operation at Medellin Airport. Heavy rain complicates the situation. A state of emergency has been declared in the city, and Air Force helicopters are searching for surviving passengers. "It's hard to find survivors, it's wooded," says Hugo Botero López, mayor of La Union.

“We are working with local authorities in connection with the emergency situation that occurred with the Chapecoense aircraft,” the airport tweeted.

What do they write in Brazil?

Chapecoense published a short message on the official Facebook page: “Given the conflicting reports coming from various journalistic sources regarding the crash of the plane carrying the Chapecoense team players, we refrain from commenting and await official statements from the Colombian air authorities. May God be with our athletes, leaders, journalists and other members of the delegation.”

Are there survivors?

Yes. Defender Alan Ruskel, who was rescued from the wreckage of the plane, has already been taken to the La Seja hospital. It is reported that Alan has multiple fractures of bones, hips, lacerations of the head. The second survivor is Chapecoense goalkeeper Danilo Padilla. It is surprising that before the flight, Ruskel posted on Instagram his photo from the board - just with Danilo. Jackson Vollmann was taken to the hospital.

Another survivor already taken to the hospital is flight attendant Jimena Suarez.

The 23rd Chapecoense player was supposed to appear on board, but at the last moment he was unhooked from the squad. His name has not yet been released.

Information will be updated.

In Brazil, a three-day mourning has been declared, and in the state of Santa Catarina - a 30-day mourning...

Six of the 77 people on the plane survived the tragedy. Among them are three Chapecoense players - defenders Alan Russell and Helio Sampier Neto and goalkeeper Jackson Folmann. Team goalkeeper Marcos Danilo died in the hospital due to multiple injuries.

Other survivors are crew members Jimena Suarez and Erwin Tumiri and also a journalist Rafael Valmorbida.

A Reuters photographer who was one of the first to arrive at the crash site said he saw dozens of bodies lying near the wreckage. According to him, by that time about 30 rescuers, representatives of the police and the military were looking for survivors. The plane was divided into two parts, while only the nose and wings were distinguishable, the tail was completely destroyed.

Colombian officials said the charter flight carrying the Chapecoense left Sao Paulo on Monday afternoon (5:35 p.m. local time), made a stop in Bolivia and then proceeded to Medellin, where the team was to play the Copa final. Libertadores with the local Atlético Nacional.

The British Aerospace 146 plane, which flew to Colombia's second largest city, was carrying football players, the management and staff of the football club, as well as journalists.

At 22:00, the pilots of the liner reported problems with electrical equipment, and 15 minutes later the plane disappeared from radar and crashed in a wooded mountainous area 30 miles from its destination, according to representatives of the Medellin airport. Rescue operations were hampered by heavy rain, fog and darkness.

"At the moment it is known that the tragedy happened in Cerro Gordo, La Union province," the authorities said. It was assumed that there were 81 people on board, but it later turned out that four passengers decided at the last moment not to fly.

On Monday, Colombia's civil aviation agency announced that the plane's two flight recorders were found "in excellent condition."

The two surviving crew members - Jimena Suarez and Ervin Tumiri - were taken to the Riogrande hospital.

Three players - Alan Ruschel, Helio Sampier Neto and Jackson Folmann - and journalist Rafael Valmorbida were also taken to the hospital. Two of them were seriously injured. For the life of another survivor of the crash, Marcos Danilo, the doctors fought for several hours ...

Russell retains the sensitivity of the limbs and can restore motor activity. Doctors diagnosed the 27-year-old defender with multiple fractures of the arms and legs, as well as a fracture of the spine. He was operated on and transferred to another hospital.

Folmann's leg was amputated.

Details of the other survivors and their condition are not yet available.

Graças a Deus o Alan está no hospital, estado estável. Estamos orando por todos que ainda não foram socorridos, e força para todos os familiares. Situação complicado, difícil. So Deus para dar forca mesmo. 🙏🏻 obrigada deus

Nivaldo, the 42-year-old goalkeeper who has been with Chapecoense since 2006 and who hasn't flown to Colombia, said he woke up at 5 a.m. Tuesday after receiving a phone call from a friend who asked if the player was on the plane. According to Nivaldo, he tried to contact one of his teammates, but no one answered...

Among the victims is the head coach of the team, Luis Carlos Saroli, also known as Cayo Junior. His son, Matheus Saroli, was also supposed to fly to Colombia, but stayed at home, because. lost my passport. “We need strength. Please give us some peace, especially my mother,” he wrote on his Facebook page.

For the attacker Alejandro Martinuccio fate should be thanked - his life was saved by an injury, due to which he also did not fly with the team to Medellin. “I am saved only for the reason that I am injured. I am saddened... The only thing I can ask is to pray for those who were on board,” said the striker, also known for playing for Villarreal, Peñarol and the Brazilian Curitibu, Ponte Preto, “ Cruzeiro and Fluminense.

Third goalkeeper for Chapecoense Marcelo Book did not fly with the team, because received permission to celebrate his birthday.

All those who remained in Brazil today came to the dressing room, where a few days ago they celebrated reaching the final of the Copa Libertadores, to honor the memory of those who died.

The liner carrying the Chapecoense was in operation for 17 years. The same plane carried the Argentina national team to the match with Brazil (0:3) in the 2018 World Cup qualifying tournament.

Because the aircraft was manufactured in the UK, a team of three experts from the Air Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) went to the crash site.

It is known that after the fall the plane did not catch fire, but at the moment it is not clear why this happened - either the pilots somehow dumped the remaining fuel, or it simply ran out.

It is also worth noting that the Chapecoense players were not supposed to fly on this flight at all (!) - shortly before departure, the Brazilian Civil Aviation Authority banned the club from flying to Medellin on a charter, so the team had to buy tickets for a regular commercial flight.

President of Brazil Michel Temer announced a three-day mourning and expressed condolences to the families and relatives of the victims. "I express my solidarity at this sad time, when dozens of Brazilian families have been affected by the tragedy," the politician's official Twitter account says. “We offer any form of assistance to families. The Air Force and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are on the case. The government will do everything possible to ease the pain of this loss.”

Colleague Temer from Colombia Juan Manuel Santos also expressed condolences to the families of the victims.

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has announced a seven-day mourning in connection with the plane crash, all matches held under the auspices of the CBF have been postponed for a week. According to the decision of the CBF, the second leg of the Cup of the country between Gremio and Atlético Mineiro will take place on December 7, the final round of the Brazilian Serie A on December 11, and the Brazilian U20 Cup final between Bahia and São Paulo will take place on December 8 .

The Confederation of South American Football (CONMEBOL) also announced the suspension of all international competitions under its auspices in connection with the tragedy.

Representatives of Atlético Nacional, with whom Chapecoense were to play in the Copa final, suggested that CONMEBOL award the Brazilian club the cup victory as a "posthumous tribute to the victims of the disaster." "For us, Chapecoense is the champion of the tournament," the Colombian team said in a statement.

Dozens and hundreds of clubs around the world have provided or are ready to provide assistance to Shapa. Brazilian and Argentinean teams made an official appeal in which they declared their readiness to provide the Chapecoense with players.

Financial assistance to the Brazilian Leicester was provided by the London Arsenal, Cristiano Ronaldo and many others. No one was spared from the tragedy. “We could have been in their place. If we had not lost then, perhaps Coritiba would have flown to Medellin. We are all sad because we had a good relationship with Chapecoense. Coritiba will do everything in its power to help our brothers from Santa Catarina,” said the President of Coritiba Roger Baselar.

After the tragedy, Chapecoense fans gathered outside the stadium to pay tribute to the victims. Hundreds of fans brought flags and flowers and then said a prayer together. “The city just stopped. Very sad. This is a big loss for all of Brazilian football. The team was at its peak,” said goalkeeper Nivaldo.

The story of Chapecoense is the story of the Brazilian Cinderella. Back in 2009, the team played in Serie D and was on the verge of bankruptcy. The club was saved by local businessmen - they raised money, 30% of which was spent on paying off debts (about half a million dollars), and 70% - on further development.

In the autumn of 2009, Chape entered Serie C, could have been relegated a year later, but remained in the third division due to the unwillingness of Atlético Ibirama to take his place. In 2012 he rose to Serie B, and in 2014 he took off into the elite. The way from the fourth league to the final of the Copa Sudamericana took only seven years.

After reaching the final of the Copa Libertadores, the locker room was very loud - songs, dances, champagne. The team was at its peak. One step away from triumph.

But the final will not be played. Heaven has already got champions.

The tragedy happened in the morning Moscow time, when the plane traveled most of the way to Medellin International Airport in the Colombian capital Bogotá.

There were 81 people on board, of which nine were crew members and 72 were passengers. Among the passengers were 27 Chapecoense footballers, as well as members of the club's delegation and journalists.

The exact number of victims is not reported at the moment, and in the club's Facebook group, fans leave messages with the hashtag "live" on the wall.

The actions of rescuers are complicated by the fact that the plane crashed in a mountainous area, however, in one of the Colombian hospitals, they first reported the arrival of five passengers who survived the accident, and then another five.

Radio station 360 Radio Colombia reported that the crew of the charter flight gave ground services a low fuel signal. The pilot decided to make an emergency landing, but the plane did not reach the nearest airport and crashed in the La Unión area, 37 km from its destination - the city of Medellin.

In addition, the first photos from the scene appeared on the network. One of them shows the emblem of the Brazilian club.

According to the latest information, between ten and 16 people survived, and among them there are definitely three Chapecoense players: Alan Ruschel, Danilo Padilla and Jackson Vollman. At the same time, it is reported that at least 25 people have already become victims of the tragedy.

The fact that the plane's electronics had failed was known to dispatchers even before the crash after a message from the pilot, who then circled over the ground for a long time, choosing a place for an emergency landing so that the plane would not explode on contact with the ground, which helped some passengers survive.

Chapecoense was founded in 1973, is a five-time champion of the state of Santa Catarina and is now ninth in the ranking of the Brazilian Football Confederation.

In 2013, the club from Chapeco, having finished second in Serie B, returned to the elite national division after 35 years.

Interestingly, the first place that year in the Serie B championship was taken by the most titled Brazilian club Palmeiras, which this season, a round before the finish of the championship, scored the ninth victory in the Brazilian national championship.

It was in the match against Chapecoense, which currently occupies the ninth place in the championship table, that Palmeiras secured the title, winning 1-0.

Chapecoense, after returning to the elite, first took 15th and then 14th place and, following the results of the 2015 season, qualified for the second most important club tournament in South America - the Sudamericana Cup.

According to the rules of the tournament, the Brazilian teams start in it from the second stage with confrontations with their compatriots. To break into the main draw, Chapecoense had to overcome the resistance of Cuiaba from Serie C, which was done, although not without difficulty (0:1, 3:1).

In the main round, Chapecoense first faced Independiente of Argentina and advanced to the quarter-finals after two goalless draws and a penalty shoot-out win.

In the quarterfinals, the Brazilian team beat the Colombian Junior (0:1, 3:0), and then in the semifinals, due to a goal in a foreign field, they were stronger than the Argentinean San Lorenzo (1:1, 0:0).

In the final, Chapecoense was supposed to meet with another Colombian team - Atlético Nacional. The first meeting was scheduled for November 30 and was to be held in the Colombian capital, and on December 7, the opponents were to play in Chapeco.

The fate of the final is currently unknown, but, apparently, CONMEBOL (South American Football Confederation) will cancel the confrontation, and the winner will not be revealed this year.

The most famous Chapecoense football player is a midfielder who played for Atlético Madrid from 2007 to 2010.

The only legionnaire of the team, the 28-year-old Argentine in 2012, played 13 meetings for the Spanish Villarreal, scoring one goal.

The most promising footballer of the team is the Brazilian youth team player, bought before this season from Gremio by German Hoffenheim, but loaned to Chapecoense.

Athletes fly often - to competitions, training camps. And representatives of team sports also fly all together. Therefore, numerous cases from the history of modern sports, when an entire sports team died in a plane crash, are statistically quite explainable. But this does not diminish the pain of relatives, friends and fans. Today we remember the most tragic plane crashes in the history of sport.

The death of the Yaroslavl "Locomotive"

Lokomotiv Yaroslavl hasn't had much success in over a decade since former head coach Vladimir Vuytek left the team in 2003 after receiving a better offer from former rivals Ak Bars Kazan. This, however, did not prevent the team from starting each season with full dedication. At the start of the 2011-12 season, the team intended to follow the same course as a member of the Kontinental Hockey League. But on September 7, 2011, during a flight to Minsk for the first game of the season, almost the entire team died in a plane crash. The Yak-42 plane, on which the Yaroslavl Lokomotiv was flying, crashed a few seconds after takeoff from the Yaroslavl Tunoshna airport. One of the team's star players was Alexander Galimov, through whose efforts the team scored seven wins and two losses in the pre-season matches. It was Galimov who scored the last goal in Lokomotiv's games before the plane crash. Galimov survived the crash, but died in hospital five days later. The rest of the players, as well as the coaches and technical staff of the team, died on the spot, as did the rest of the passengers and crew members, with the exception of crew engineer Alexander Sizov. The cause of the disaster was recognized as a crew error, which, as it turned out, was not sufficiently trained to fly on machines of this type.

The plane crash that changed wrestling

This plane crash resulted in serious injuries to the participants and ended two careers. However, if the injuries of those who survived were more serious, the entire sports and entertainment industry would change beyond recognition. Promoter David Crocket and four wrestlers, Mr. Wrestling II, Bobby Bruges, Johnny Valentine and Ric Flair, were on board a private Cessna 310 flying from Charlotte to Wilmington, North Carolina on September 4, 1975. The plane crash was the result of an error by the crew, who incorrectly calculated the amount of fuel. As the survivors admitted, when the plane began to fall, they were sure that this was the end. However, only the pilot died in the crash, dying from his injuries two months later. Valentine was paralyzed and his career ended. Bruges also retired from the sport, although he retained the ability to walk. Why could this disaster change the face of the industry? The fact is that Flair and Valentine, according to legend, were the "bad guys" who feuded with Mr. Wrestling, and the industry for a long time tried to hide the truth about the disaster by not telling anyone about Mr. Wrestling's participation in that flight. He himself, fortunately, managed to support the cover legend - remaining alive and well, Mr. Wrestling entered the ring just two weeks after the accident.

Plane crash "Grand Torino"

Italian, and perhaps even world football, did not know a team that had such undeniable superiority over rivals as the "Grand Torino" - such a nickname was given to the team of the Italian football club "Torino" in the 1940s. The team won five national cups in a row and continued to win until a plane crash on May 4, 1949 claimed the lives of 18 players and 13 team members. Grand Torino was a hand-picked team: Torino owner Ferruzio Novo was one of the first professionals in the world of sports to put talent scouting on a professional footing.
The Torino club won league titles from 1941 until 1949, with the exception of 1945-45, when the national championship was not held. In the championship of 1949, they were also considered the undisputed favorites until the day of the plane crash that happened during the return of the players from a friendly game in Lisbon. The cause of the accident was the pilot's error, which lost control in bad weather conditions. The National Football Federation, in the end, decided to award the team the championship title in 1949 as a sign of supreme justice: after all, if that unfortunate accident had not happened, the team would undoubtedly have received it.

Busby Babies plane crash in Munich

The Busby Babes, who came to big football from a youth school, pupils of Manchester United head coach Matt Busby, were very young - they were all barely in their twenties. Nevertheless, the pupils of the Manchester youth team, who played together from childhood, were a close-knit professional team, and after joining the first team they won the English championship twice - in the 1955-56 and 1956-57 seasons. Fans adored them not only for their talent, but also for the fact that they were all pupils of the club, and not players bought from other clubs, which was just in vogue at that time. Alas, their success was interrupted by a plane crash in Munich on February 6, 1958, in which eight key players of the team were killed, and two more were seriously injured. The plane, which was trying to take off during a snowstorm, barely got off the ground and soon crashed. The catastrophe made such a depressing impression on the British that even the queen expressed her personal condolences not only to the families and friends of the victims, but to the people of England as a whole.

Death in a plane crash of the American figure skating team

In 1961, figure skating in the United States was at its peak. The leader of the national figure skating team, Lawrence Owen, even appeared on the eve of the World Figure Skating Championships in Prague on the cover of the most popular Sports Illustrated magazine. Two days after the issue of the magazine was published, Owen and the rest of the national team were tragically killed in a plane crash in Brussels. The plane that brought the skaters to Europe exploded during an emergency landing. All 72 passengers, including the national team athletes and their families, died instantly. The only survivor was a dog flying in the luggage compartment. The world of figure skating was shocked. The World Championships in Prague were canceled after the news of the disaster, and the Americans were so shocked that they lost interest in figure skating for a long time, undermined by bad memories. Even President Kennedy was so shocked that his brother, Senator Robert Kennedy, addressed the people with words of condolence on his behalf.

Death of the "Strongest"

The Bolivian team "The Strongest" had such a self-confident name for a reason: it really shone in the national championship for many years. In September 1969, the team flew to a friendly match in Santa Cruz. Having played, the players of the "Strongest" on September 26, 1969, on a DC-6 plane, went to their homeland, to the city of La Paz. But it was on this day that a military coup took place in the country. In the confusion, the plane with the players mysteriously disappeared from the radar and was found only a day later crashed near the village of Viloko. All passengers - 81 people - were killed, including 17 football players, the team's coach and manager, and a technical officer.

Death of the Marshall University American football team

For the small town of Huntington in West Virginia, 1970 was a year of success for Marshall University's local football team, the Thundering Horde. As a team of local importance, Orda rarely traveled by plane, and the joint flight on November 14, 1970 was almost the first in its practice. Why the plane crashed, the investigation failed to figure it out. There were 37 team members on board, including 9 coaches, and a number of fans. Given the death toll, this disaster is considered the most massive tragedy in the history of American sports.

The death of "Pakhtakor"

The death of the Pakhtakor football team is perhaps the most famous tragedy in the history of Soviet sports. Tashkent "Pakhtakor" was one of the most successful football teams in the USSR. On August 11, 1979, the team flew on a TU-134 Minsk plane to meet with Dynamo Minsk. The controller noticed too late that the plane was dangerously approaching another TU-134 in the air. He gave the command to the planes to disperse, but the command was not accepted by the crews - and the wing of one of the planes pierced the fuselage of the other. This caused both vehicles to explode mid-air. All 178 passengers on both flights were killed, including 17 Pakhtakor players and coaches. According to rumors, Leonid Ilyich Brezhnev flew that day, which caused confusion on the airways. Despite the tragedy, the surviving Pakhtakor players returned to the field just 12 days after the tragedy to continue playing in the USSR championship, thus paying tribute to their dead comrades.

Deaths of Evansville Basketball Players

In 1977, the basketball team at the University of Evansville was preparing for a difficult start to the season. The main problem of the team was the departure of the coach, Arad McCutchen, who worked with the team for many years. McCutchen was very popular in Evansville: Time magazine even called him the "pride and passion" of the local basketball team. But the "Purple Aces" were not going to give up, although the season started badly: three defeats against one victory. Nevertheless, the members of the team were determined when they went to the game with the team of the University of Central Tennessee on December 3, 1977. The flight was delayed for several hours due to bad weather. When the plane nevertheless took off from the ground, it stayed in the air for only a minute and a half, after which it crashed to the ground. Among the causes of the disaster was later named, in particular, the overload of the luggage compartment. The crash killed 17 crew members. Later, the University of Evansville opened the Weeping Basketball Memorial in honor of the dead.

Death of the Zambian national team

The Zambian football team of 1993 was considered the best in the history of the country. Football has always been popular in this African country, especially during the reign of President Kenneth Kaunda, who spared no expense for its development. After the removal of Kaunda, there was less money, but the national team, despite the poverty, remained one of the best in Africa. However, the team had to cut back on everything, including travel expenses. To fly to the World Cup qualifying match against Senegal in Dakar, the team had to rent a Zambian Air Force plane. Alas, the national air force was in a deplorable state. April 27, 1993 during the flight, one of the aircraft's engines caught fire. The pilot made a fatal mistake by turning off the second engine, after which the plane completely lost control and crashed. All 18 players on board were killed.

American boxing team plane crash

As you know, the US team, among 65 countries of the world, boycotted the Moscow Olympics-80. However, the US boxing team would not have been able to take part in the Olympic competition anyway due to the terrible plane crash that occurred on March 14, 1980 and killed 14 athletes and 8 team members. The boxers were on their way to compete in Poland when their plane crashed into fly to Warsaw. A total of 87 passengers died in the crash. Experts consider the champion of the Pan American Games Lemuel Steeples to be the best of the crashed athletes.

The death of "eleven motley"

These Dutch footballers of Surinamese origin were true humanitarians: they played in charity matches, thus raising funds to work with children from socially disadvantaged areas, involving them in sports and helping them find the right path in life. They were called "eleven motley" - as a sign that they bring bright colors into the lives of children from the poorest families. In fact, there were more team members - only about two dozen people. The next charity match with their participation was to be held in Paramaribo, the capital of Suriname. But it did not take place: fifteen team members died in a plane crash in Paramaribo on June 7, 1989, which killed 176 passengers and crew members of an aircraft flying from Europe to South America. Two more members of the team, including Dutch football legend Ruud Gullit, refused to fly at the very last moment, and therefore escaped. As it turned out later, the disaster occurred due to the fact that when landing at Paramaribo airport, the plane touched the top of a tree.

Death in Hendrick Motosport team plane crash

The death of a rider on the track, although rare, does happen, but the death of riders in a plane crash is an exceptional case. Meanwhile, that's exactly what happened on October 24, 2004, when 10 people from the Hendrick Motorsport team died in a plane crash, including the son of team owner Rick Hendrick, NASCAR driver Ricky Hendrick, his older brother and nieces. On this day, the team successfully took part in competitions at the autotrack in Marysville. The report of the crash, which claimed the lives of 10 people, came within minutes of the news of the victory of the rider Jimmie Johnson on the track. The cause of the crash would later be cited as a combination of pilot error and severe foggy weather.

Oklahoma cowboy plane crash

In November 2011, the Oklahoma women's basketball team lost head coach Kurt Budke and his assistant Miranda Serna. They and two other passengers were killed in the crash of a small private jet on which the coach and his assistant were returning home from a trip where they selected new players for their team. Kurt Budke girls from the basketball team considered a real father, and his assistant was treated like a sister. In addition to them, State Senator Olin Branstetter and his wife Paula were killed in the crash. The most incredible thing is that for five years the commission investigating the disaster has not been able to establish its cause. At the controls of the plane was Senator Branstetter, who did not report to controllers about turbulence or other weather-related problems. The version that the senator became ill and lost control of the car was not confirmed either. No technical faults were found either. Why the plane crashed is still a mystery.

Death of the Oklahoma Cowboys

The long history of tragedies associated with the University of Oklahoma began in January 2001, when 10 members of the university's men's basketball team were killed in a small private jet crash. The team was returning home after the loss to the Colorado Buffalos to regroup and regroup for the next game. But the pilot of the plane lost his bearings during a snowstorm, and the car crashed to the ground. Players and fans of the Oklahoma Cowboys still remember the dead players and coaches with the mourning anthem "Remember the Ten." In addition, a memorial has been erected on campus in honor of the dead, and sports competitions are held every year to commemorate the dead.
