Ranking of teams in ice hockey. Hockey rating. IIHF World Ranking

SE uses the International Ice Hockey Federation's scoring system to rank senior teams and compiles a virtual table of the best youth teams of the past four years.

As you know, the distribution of teams into groups at the adult world championship is carried out on the basis of the IIHF rating, which is also used to determine teams that receive Olympic licenses bypassing the qualifying tournament. The scoring system for this ranking was adopted in September 2003. The results of the performance of teams at the last Olympic Games and four world championships are taken into account.

The winner of the tournament gets 1200 points, between two adjacent positions, the difference is 20 points, so, for example, the team that took 10th place gets 940 points, and the team in 11th place gets 920. But between the first and second, second and third, fourth and fifth, eighth and ninth places difference of 40 points. The result of the tournament closest to today is taken into account by 100%, the penultimate one - by 75% (for example, for the 2015 World Cup, Canadians receive not 1200, but 900 points), the earliest - by 25%. The Olympics and the World Championship held in the same year are considered equivalent.

At the moment, the top ten of the IIHF ranking is as follows:

"SE" decided to ask a question - what form would take a similar rating for the youth teams on the basis of the forum in Toronto and Montreal? For the calculation, we will take the last four championships, since there are no tournaments comparable to the Olympic Games in youth hockey, and to add the MFM five years ago, fundamental changes in the scoring system are needed - we will not come up with anything new.

Despite the fact that she has not won a single world championship in the last four years, she has never left the top three, which none of her competitors have been able to do. As a result, the Russians ended up on the first line of our rating, 15 points ahead of the US team, which seriously improved its position due to success in the shootout series. The Canadian team closes the top three, but the most titled youth team of recent years - the Finnish team - due to the failure at the sites of Montreal and Toronto, takes only fifth place.

Hockey is one of the most popular sports in our country. Surely many will be interested in where the Russian team is now in the ranking of the best teams and who opposes it.

The rating of hockey teams is calculated by the IIHF organization, the place depends on the latest performances at the Olympic Games and World Championships. At the moment, Russia is in second place in the ranking. On the first one…

Canada

The legendary founder of hockey is in first place in the ranking of hockey teams in the world. The team until 1954 openly dominated the international arena - until the moment when the team of the Soviet Union appeared on it. Nevertheless, even after that moment, it remained one of the strongest, and after the collapse of the USSR, it again took a dominant position. It was for her that the famous hockey players Mario Lemieux and Wayne Gretzky played. The first is a French Canadian who suffered from spinal problems, but at the same time went out on the ice and showed amazing results, the second is the best player in the National Hockey League of all time. The national team consists of the strongest hockey players in the world, which it successfully proved in recent meetings with the Russian team at the 2010 Olympics and the 2015 World Cup, ending the confrontation with a devastating score.

Russia

The second place in the ranking is occupied by our team. The successor of the legendary "Red Machine" still demonstrates good hockey to this day. It would seem that every year the best hockey players of the planet perform in it, capable of showing breathtaking hockey, and victories at the world championships happen regularly - but the mechanism fails no less regularly. At the same time, hockey players lose not only to eminent rivals, there are also very offensive defeats - for example, at the 2014 championship, the team lost to the French on May 9. Despite all this, the Russian team is considered one of the strongest, and there are Russians among the best players in the NHL. Unfortunately, Russia, despite its high place in the ranking of countries in hockey, cannot boast of having Olympic medals of the highest standard.

Sweden

In third place is the Swedish national team - another team that has long been in the lead. Tre-Krunur is one of the most stable teams, which regularly receives awards in various competitions. It is noteworthy that with a consistently high result, the team won prizes relatively rarely. Twice the Swedes were the champions of the Olympic Games. The symbolism in the form of three crowns is well known to all hockey fans, they are well aware of the style of play of these athletic Scandinavians.

Finland

The team that settled in fourth place in the ranking. While the first three representatives of the list have been among the strongest for quite some time, the Finns have been outsiders for a long time. In the second half of the twentieth century, they managed with great difficulty to break into the middle peasants, but they were far from medals. At the moment, their team is a two-time world champion. They managed to win the first awards at the Olympic Games only in 1988 - in the most difficult struggle they outran almost all opponents - they managed to beat everyone in general, including even the champions - the USSR. The bottom line is that at that time the playoffs were still absent, and the Soviet hockey players, who won in seven matches in a row and secured victory in the tournament, did not have much motivation, which led to the defeat from the Finns. Since the 1990s, a sharp rise began, and Finland quickly got into the top ten in the ranking of countries in ice hockey. For this, they should also thank the Soviet players - after the collapse of the Union, some of them went to train exactly the Finnish players. The Finns still play beautifully, competing with the leading teams in the world.

2015 Team Final Standings (IIHF)

The world ranking of national ice hockey teams is compiled by the International Ice Hockey Federation. This rating was launched in 2003, and it is still popular today. Places in the ranking are calculated on the basis of what results the teams received during their performances at the last four World Championships, and this also includes the last Winter Olympics.

It is worth recalling that in 2016 the World Cup will be held from May 6 to 22 in Russia. The championship will be held in two cities. One in St. Petersburg in the sports complex Yubileiny, and the second city - Moscow, in the VTB Ice Palace. This championship will already be the 80th under the leadership of the International Ice Hockey Federation. Participation will be taken by 16 national teams and 14 teams that retained their place at the end of the last World Championship in the Top Division. You can also see the participation of teams from Hungary and Kazakhstan.

In 2016, Laika will be the official mascot of the World Cup. He was chosen by representatives of the International Ice Hockey Federation and the Russian Ice Hockey Federation from 4 finalists of the competition.

Let's look at the table of the best teams in the world:

  1. First place - Canada
  2. Second place - Russia
  3. Third place - Sweden
  4. Fourth place - Finland
  5. Fifth place - USA

As you can see, Russia is not far behind. And this is not surprising. After all, we have such severe winters and we just got used to ice and ice. This, one might say, is our element. Nearby is the Scandinavian country - Finland, as well as the Nordic country - Canada. With them we go head to head. And let our guys not be the first in football, but we will always be the best in hockey.

After the fifth place there are such countries as: Czech Republic, Switzerland, Slovakia, Belarus, Latvia. The second ten champions are: Norway, France, Germany, Slovenia, Denmark, Austria, Kazakhstan, Italy, Hungary and Japan. Next come such countries as: Ukraine, Poland, South Korea, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Croatia, Romania, Estonia and Serbia.

In general, if you look at the list, our friends in the neighborhood are a little behind us. But that's not a problem. The most important thing is participation. Someday the first place will be ours. But the second step is also a wonderful indicator.
