Pros and cons of growing onions for sale

Growing green onions as a business has its pros and cons. The benefits include the following:

  • small cash investments;
  • expenses pay off fairly quickly;
  • experts note a rather high percentage of profitability;
  • products are always in demand on the market, as more and more people prefer to switch to a healthy diet;
  • always high purchase price of products.

Despite the numerous advantages, growing greens has disadvantages, which include the following:

  1. Not all conditions are suitable for favorable cultivation. If it is planned in the northern region, then you need to be prepared for additional costs associated with heating and lighting.
  2. For excellent growth, fertilizers are required, and this is an additional cost.
  3. For regular care, it is better to hire a labor force, and this is also an expense.

In some cases, it is better to purchase a land plot in a warmer zone, go on business trips, but not maintain a greenhouse in the northern region. When planning a business, it is important to assess the demand for products in the region.

What documents are needed to open a business?

A business can be of various sizes. It is conditionally possible to divide this entrepreneurial activity into the following types:

  • Small greenhouse business. The scale of onion production for greens is reduced to the maintenance of 1-2 greenhouses. If activities are planned in such small volumes, then registration is not needed. To conduct such a business, it is necessary to prepare a certificate confirming the availability of a plot on which greenery is grown, and to resolve the issues of connecting communications - it is important to work out all the options here, to provide for the possibility of preferential tariffs. Small business will bring a small but stable income.
  • Medium greenhouse business. It is larger and implies the presence of a large number of greenhouses, but it will not be necessary to use a lot of labor resources. When operating on such a scale, it is necessary to register a business with the relevant authorities, to obtain special permits to conduct activities. You will have to monitor the maintenance of the accounting database, draw up and send relevant documents to regulatory authorities.
  • Large greenhouse business. Enterprises of this type have a large number of greenhouses and workforce. Mandatory registration of such activities as an LLC or CJSC is required, while a package of documents must be registered with all higher authorities. Such an enterprise must regularly transfer taxes and contributions to regulatory authorities. Income from the sale of onions for greens directly depends on production volumes. In order to receive a stable and high income, it is necessary to expand the scale of production, look for additional wholesale buyers.

How to start an onion growing business?

Onion growing business can have different scales. You can run it in the following ways:

  • Growing green onions in the apartment. Such a business does not require large expenses, but it is better to have free space so that you can grow greens in the cold season. For these purposes, it is best to use boxes, bottles, boxes and other accessories that are convenient for plant growth.
  • Growing onions on a feather suburban area - this is great option for doing business in the summer. There is much more space on the site than in the apartment, but business is relevant only in summer time. If you plan to grow onions year-round, then in the off-season, planting should be moved to a warm room. To grow greens in this way, you will need boxes, they can be arranged in several rows. Do not forget that green feathers are cheaper in summer than in winter, so you will have to increase production volumes.
  • Onion growing business in a greenhouse. This type of activity is considered the most successful. It is more profitable to keep greenhouses in the southern regions. If production is planned in the north, then do not forget that you will have to bear additional costs for electricity and heating. When maintaining a greenhouse, the entrepreneur will not depend on the season and the weather, the products grow all year round.

How much money do you need to start a onion growing business?

Growing green onions as a business is an activity that requires certain investments. The amount of expenses depends on the region in which this entrepreneurial activity is conducted. As shows personal experience a large number of entrepreneurs, cultivation in the southern and middle lane much better than in the north.

First of all, investments are needed in the land itself. Before buying, it is important to decide on what scale the activity is planned.

If a person wants to put production on stream, then it is important to acquire a fairly large plot of land on which it will be convenient to place everything necessary for the activity.

After acquiring a plot, it is best to formalize your business. In this case, all activities will be legal, you will not have to be afraid of inspections or any other problems.

To grow greens, you need to purchase equipment. For this purpose, it is best to buy greenhouses. They allow culture to grow in favorable conditions. Funds will be required to purchase specialized care equipment. No need to save on the cost of the material from which the greenhouse is made. The better and stronger it will be, the better conditions for growth.

After purchasing all the equipment, you need to think about buying planting material. In this case, the savings will not go into the hands, so it is wiser to contact trusted suppliers who are popular in the market. When the entrepreneur is sure that his products High Quality, the number of buyers will continue to grow. In the future, seedlings for planting can be grown independently.

How much can you earn growing onions?

Growing onions for greens is a highly profitable business activity. With the right approach, you can have up to 1 million rubles. income per month from several acres of land. In addition to onions, you can grow dill, parsley, basil. Such plants are loved by many citizens, greens are added during cooking to give a piquant taste to dishes.

If significant funds were spent on entrepreneurial activities, then you should not be afraid that they will pay off for a long time. The first net profit can be obtained approximately 6 months after the opening of the business. Such products are always in demand, so the payback will be fast.

The onion business will be initially successful if approached wisely. It is important to think through everything to the smallest detail: how the plants will be grown, what care is required. Only in this case it is possible to achieve success in this type of entrepreneurial activity.

The use of what equipment will help increase the yield of onions?

In order to grow onions all year round, getting a good harvest, regardless of weather conditions, daylight hours and other factors, experts recommend using greenhouses. These structures can be built independently or bought collapsible structures. The first option is much cheaper, but if you have never held a hammer and a hacksaw in your hands, then it is better to purchase a ready-made greenhouse.

Inside the building you need to create ideal conditions for growing onions:

  1. Greenhouse heating. If technical capabilities allow, you can connect to the heating system of your home. Another option is a potbelly stove, electric heaters or gas convectors.
  2. Irrigation system. Be sure to install a water tank, which should always be full.
  3. Lighting. In the cold season, when the daylight hours are very short, in order to ensure the normal growth and development of plants, it is necessary to take care of the lighting.
  4. Ventilation. Be sure to think about the possibility of ventilation in your greenhouse.

Growing onions outdoors is much easier. In this case, it is necessary to make a system for watering plants and take care of their protection from sudden changes in air temperature.

OKVED code and licensing of this business

Commercial activities related to the cultivation of onions, according to the all-Russian classifier, fall under the category with the OKVED code 01.12.1.

Important point! If you are engaged in paperwork for an onion growing company, consider the fact that for this line of business no special permits or licenses required.

Popular technologies for growing onions

Residents of rural areas prefer to grow onions from sets. This method allows you to get finished products very quickly. But for this it is necessary to carefully sort out and process the planting material. by special means. The main condition for obtaining a good harvest using this technology is the presence of an open area that is well lit and blown by the winds.

In addition to the above technology, you can grow onions from seeds (the process takes a long time and there are often losses) or get greens from large bulbs. The choice of the optimal method for growing these useful plants depends on your desire and the availability of the necessary resources.

The business of growing onions for sale is traditionally considered profitable. Onions are always consumed, they are added to many dishes, okroshka, salads and consumed fresh. Having organized your business on growing onions, you can be sure that they will buy it from you. Another fact is also encouraging: a small financial investment to open a business. You can even open a mini-farm on your own plot by installing a small greenhouse of 25-40 sq.m. and having spent no more than 100 - 200 thousand rubles on construction ...

But it is most profitable to grow onions on a feather ( green onion). This can be understood by simply comparing prices. In supermarkets, a bunch of onion feathers costs from 25 rubles, while a kilogram of turnip onions costs only 15-20 rubles. The difference is obvious. In addition, there is no difference in the complexity of cultivation.

Even in greenhouse conditions with 1 sq.m. receive up to 15 kg of green mass per month. With an average price of 150 rubles / kg, a greenhouse per 100 sq.m. brings the farmer at least 200 thousand rubles in revenue for 30-40 days of work.

We take into account seasonality

The easiest and cheapest way to grow onions is outdoors. Bulbs were planted in May - June and harvested all summer. Although it will be very difficult to make money in this case, since the competition is strong during the season, and the price of onions becomes minimal. But starting from August and until May of next year, the price of green onions does not fall below 120 rubles per kilogram, and in the winter months it rises to 200 rubles. This is where the main income begins.

But the year-round method of growing green onions is not suitable for many due to the cost of building a greenhouse and observing technology. To obtain decent volumes of products, it will be necessary to build a heated greenhouse with an area of 100 square meters. m. The cost of such a structure ranges from 300 to 700 thousand rubles, depending on the material used and its cost. Onion forcing in the greenhouse goes from October to May, and then open ground.

Choosing an onion variety

The best option is to grow a multi-tiered or Egyptian onion. Unlike leek and batun, multi-tiered onions have a thin feather. But these are not all the advantages that make this variety attractive for cultivation. The main advantage of the Egyptian bow is that it does not have a dormant period. It does not matter what time of year you planted it: summer, winter, spring or autumn. The variety grows and gives distillation at any time. Other advantages include high winter hardiness of the variety, low need for lighting and convenient propagation by air bulbs (bulbs).

The duration of the forcing of the Egyptian onion is from 25 to 40 days. From 1 kilogram of planting material, 2 kg of onion feathers grow. Planting material is obtained in the summer in open ground. For growing planting material, a plot of 0.1 (1/10) of the area sown in the greenhouse is allocated.

To whom to sell onions

The main thing in this business is the constant demand for the product. Green onions are readily bought at any time of the year, as these are natural vitamins. Here are just a few options for selling green onions:

  • Implementation by small wholesale dealers. It is enough to go to the trading platforms on the Internet and look at the ads: "I will buy onions in bulk." They called and offered. There will always be those who want to buy your party at a low price.
  • Realization of onions to cafes and restaurants. It is a little more complicated here, since you will have to personally negotiate with the management of institutions that already work with certain suppliers. If you offer better terms, they will be willing to cooperate with you.
  • Working with grocery stores and vegetable stalls. Price, quality, volumes and delivery times will also be decisive factors here.
  • Realization of onions on their own in food markets. Wholesale ads for onions can also be placed on the Internet. In this case, buyers will find you themselves.

Business intricacies

Care must be taken when buying planting material. Doing this in the market is not recommended, as local sellers will never tell you if the onion is processed or not. It is better to buy planting material from farms that are specifically engaged in growing onions for forcing.

In order to get a quality pen, it is necessary to use professional lighting in greenhouses. For onions, a blue spectrum is used and DRL lamps are installed.

To get juicy onions, regular watering and moisture control are required. With high soil moisture, the onion rots. Optimum temperature growing plants in greenhouses: +20 gr. in the daytime and +15 gr. at night.

Harvesting begins when the length of the onion feather reaches 20 cm or more. The day before harvesting, the plants are watered abundantly so that the crop looks more vigorous, juicier and heavier.

Planting onions can be purchased in the fall for 8 - 10 rubles per kilogram. The yield of green onions is 50% of the planting mass, when planting onions with an area of 10 m², the planting material will be about 150 kg of bulbs.

In 20 days you will receive about 70 kg of green feather, the profit will be about 10,000 rubles if sold in bulk, or 20,000 if sold at retail. And this is from 10 m² of landing area, when placing racks in two or three tiers, you can use a very small room.

Technology of growing green onions.

1. Room.

For growing onions, you can use any room that can maintain a temperature of about +15 degrees, ideal option there will be a heated greenhouse, but you can use a garage, basement or utility room.

2. Planting material.

It is advisable to buy onions in September, when its cost is minimal. The purchase can be carried out at vegetable bases or in farms. Not all onions are suitable for forcing on a feather, to find out if they are suitable, you need to cut a couple of onions, if there are several cobs in the onion - you can buy this onion, if only one cob - such planting material is not suitable.

3. Arrangement of the premises.

If you use a garage as a room, then it is desirable to additionally insulate it, you can use foam or flexible insulation. It is more expedient to grow onions on collapsible racks, they can be made of wood. The racks are shallow boxes covered with oilcloth, the height between the racks is 60-70 cm. It is not desirable to do less, the length of the onion feather reaches 50 cm.

Ordinary light bulbs can be used for lighting, but fluorescent lamps are preferable - the onion feather turns dark green.

4. Planting and cultivation.

The racks are covered with a layer of soil 5 cm. Sand can be used as soil, or a mixture of sand and earth 1: 1. The bulbs are cut before planting, cutting off the neck with a pruner, then planted tightly, slightly sticking into the soil. After planting, watering is done, the soil should be wet, but the water should not stand otherwise the bulbs may rot.

The growth rate of the onion feather depends on the room temperature:

  • 25C ° - after 17 days,
  • 22C ° - after 22 days,
  • 20C ° - after 20 days,
  • 17C ° - after 26 days,
  • 12C ° - after 28 days.

The onion crop is harvested when the height of the feather reaches 35 - 45 cm.

The bulbs are peeled with a knife, the root is cut off. Onion feathers are collected in bunches of 70 - 80 grams, tied with a thread or rubber band and placed in cardboard boxes. The bow is ready for sale!

Growing green onions is a public activity and possible even with minimal investment. The profitability of a business directly depends on the volume of plants produced, and onions can be grown almost anywhere: on the windowsill in a residential building, in a greenhouse, in a garage, in a basement.

Green onion growing technology - what should be the room for growing green onions?

Growing onions, as well as, in closed equipped premises guarantees year-round income. At the same time, human participation in the process is reduced to the simplest actions: the primary processing of raw materials and the collection of greenery.

Despite the unpretentiousness of the plant, you should still follow the general recommendations for growing. This will reduce time costs and get a good harvest.

There are three characteristics that determine the ideal conditions for the growth of green onions:

  • Comfortable air temperature.
  • Sufficient room lighting.
  • High-quality irrigation of the soil.

The size of the premises for doing business is also important, which affects the volume of products produced.

The room must be dry, not infected with mold or fungi and, if possible, light.

Here are the possible options for growing green onions:

  • Greenhouse

The simplest summer greenhouse is made of a wooden frame, which is covered with a thick plastic film on top. You can assemble such a structure yourself, using improvised materials and tools.

In the warm season, greenhouses and greenhouses do not require additional lighting or heating. natural air temperature and sunlight will be sufficient for plant growth.

Growing green onions in a greenhouse is the most environmentally friendly way, since such conditions are as close to natural as possible.

  • Basement and garage

An alternative to a greenhouse can be a basement or garage. However, these rooms need additional preparation. First of all, they should be insulated. As materials, safe heat insulators are used, for example, based on polyethylene foam or foam.

The next step is to install shelving. They can be purchased ready-made or made independently, for example, from wood. If necessary, such racks are disassembled and transported to a new location.

A solid construction for long-term use should be metal, for example, welded from a profile or pipes. Naturally, it will require more significant investments.

Growing green onions in a basement or garage involves creating the following favorable conditions:

  1. Heating . For maximum onion growth, it is necessary to observe the temperature regime in the range from +18 to +22 ° C. Any appliances can be used as heaters, but it is worth remembering that electrical devices will require serious electricity costs;
  2. Lighting . The brighter the light in the room, the richer the color of the onion feather. Therefore, if possible, the room should be equipped with fluorescent lamps;
  3. Ventilation . The air in the basement or garage must constantly circulate. It is advisable not only to install internal fans, but to organize the supply of fresh air from the street. This will give the plants a more comfortable environment and prevent the development of mold and mildew in the room.
  • Windowsill

The easiest way to grow onions is on a windowsill. For this, a loggia is well suited. In the summer, no additional tricks will be needed, and for the winter period, the loggia should be insulated and glazed. If the windows face north, artificial lighting can be arranged.

With good lighting and air temperature from +23 to +27, green onions will grow by 30 cm in about 2-2.5 weeks.

How to grow green onions for sale - features of planting material for growing green onions

Almost anything can be used as planting material: soil, sand, sawdust. There are options in which the onion grows without soil and feeds exclusively on water. This method is called hydroponics.

  • earth and sand

This is the standard planting base for the plant. If you grow onions in a greenhouse on a land plot, it is recommended to fertilize and loosen the soil.

Flaw: In all other cases, you will need to purchase special mixtures. The soil should be versatile and have an acidity of 6 to 7 ph.

  • Sawdust

Sawdust is a cheap material. Their main property is friability and the ability to retain moisture. However, this ecological material does not contain nutrients, so additional mineral fertilizers will be needed.

Plants planted in sawdust will not require too frequent watering. When cut, ripe green onion feathers will remain clean (unlike those that grow on an earthen mixture).

Sawdust has one drawback - with prolonged use, they begin to rot, and mixed with the remains of onion roots turn into compost and require replacement.

Growing green onions in hydroponics assumes that the plant will not be fed from the soil, but from the circulating medium that comes to the roots. This medium can be based on water or a solid porous substance that retains moisture well and passes air well.

Coconut fiber is ideal as a substrate. It is absolutely natural, able to strongly swell and accumulate water, while passing air.

The onion planting system should contain channels filled with a solid substrate or blown with an air-nutrient mixture. Bulbs are placed in these channels. As needed, an aqueous solution rich in minerals is launched through the ducts.

The order in which hydroponics layers are placed is as follows:

  1. Onion roots.
  2. organic substrate.
  3. Grid.
  4. nutrient solution.

Most important aspect this method of growing is high-quality aeration (air saturation) of the roots. Therefore, the mesh and nutrient solution should be about 5 cm apart.

The yield of onions growing in hydroponics will be higher, and the cost of purchasing planting materials will be lower.

Equipment and devices for growing green onions indoors

Growing onions for greens can be made as simple and convenient as possible using various devices. For example, use professional phytolamps that stimulate plant growth as a source of artificial light.

Drip irrigation systems are great for irrigating onions in greenhouses. With their help, water consumption is noticeably reduced, and the liquid itself is evenly distributed throughout the planted area.

There are entire installations designed in the form of racks in which light sources and soil containers are built. Such equipment is already ready for use, it remains only to place onions in it and water it until harvest.

There are commercially available hydroponic systems that work as follows:

  1. On the water.
  2. On the substrate.
  3. Aeroponics (air).

This equipment can be used immediately, all that is needed is to purchase raw materials and prepare a nutrient mixture.

Planting and growing green onions on a feather - how to grow green onions in winter?

Green onions can be successfully produced at any time of the year. However, this will entail considerable additional investments - at least it will be necessary to organize heating and lighting. Even using a garage or basement for business, in which it is already necessary to install sources of artificial light, heating devices will be needed.

If there are relatively small volumes in the ground, onions can be pre-treated before planting. This will speed up the germination process several times.

The procedure is:

  • Bulbs are placed in a container and completely filled with cold water.
  • After one hour, all the water is drained.
  • Landing in the ground is carried out in a day.

To grow green onions in a greenhouse in winter, you should pay attention to the quality factor of the structure and organize favorable conditions inside it.

If you plan to do business for the long term, it is advisable to build a greenhouse thoroughly:

  • The frame is made of metal or a durable wooden profile.
  • Make the base of the greenhouse.
  • Cover all ceilings and structures with paint or primer.
  • Cover the greenhouse with a strong polycarbonate film.

The growth rate of green onions directly depends on the ambient or room temperature:

  • At 12C° onions ripen for about four weeks.
  • At 17C° - about 26 days.
  • At 20C° - about 22 days.
  • At 22C° - about 20 days.
  • At 25C° - about 2.5 weeks.

Growing green onions in the cold season is best done using winter and frost-resistant plant varieties. They adapt better to lower temperatures and will be able to produce higher yields under less favorable conditions.

Is it profitable to grow green onions in winter and summer - the real reasons for selling an onion growing business

This business is considered quite profitable, but there are always parameters that can greatly affect profitability. Naturally, due to the unequal number of mandatory expenses, summer and winter onion cultivation has tangible differences.

Summer:

  • in the greenhouse Plants develop only due to sunlight. Auxiliary sources of heat and light are not needed.
  • Basement and garage - heaters are either not required at all, or must operate at minimum power (for example, in a cold basement).
  • On the windowsill Green onions grow on their own using sunlight. The room temperature does not need to be adjusted.

Winter:

  • in the greenhouse - the design itself should be made of more expensive and durable materials. Inside the greenhouse, you need to create a comfortable microclimate using additional sources of heat, and sometimes light.
  • Basement and garage - Higher quality thermal insulation materials may be required. Also, you can not do without heating devices.
  • On the windowsill - if you use a loggia for growing onions, it will need to be glazed, insulated and, possibly, heated.

In the cold season, the market value of green onions increases, which compensates for the forced costs. The undoubted advantage is the possibility of longer storage of already cut greens. Not every activity is bound to be successful.

There are a number of reasons that can hinder the development of the business and give the owner the idea of selling the business:

  1. Lack of personal vehicles . If onions are grown in a greenhouse outside the city, and for sale they need to be transported, one car is not enough. In this case, it is appropriate to use a small truck, since the harvest volumes can be impressive, and the greens must retain their presentation and not wrinkle. If there is no opportunity to purchase a vehicle, doing business can be very difficult.
  2. Unprofitability . Growing onions in winter entails another expense item - lighting and heating. If the greenhouse, garage, or basement is located in inconvenient locations or areas with high electricity bills, the cost of maintaining the right temperature can have a big impact on profit margins.
  3. Raising the price of raw materials . In a lean year, the price of onions increases greatly, which adversely affects the cost of green products.
  4. No market . Not every green onion grower has his own outlet for the sale of the grown goods. Very often, finished products are sold in bulk at prices 1.5-2 times lower than retail prices. If supply exceeds demand, the purchase price may be reduced to an unacceptable minimum, making the business unprofitable.

Real business plan for growing green onions for sale

All initial potential costs can be divided into three categories:

  • Purchase or lease of premises / land.
  • Improvement of the premises (construction, insulation).
  • Technical equipment (racks, devices, installations, containers).

To these costs are added regular expenses:

  • For the purchase of raw materials (bulbs, mineral fertilizers, water).
  • For the transportation of finished products.
  • To maintain the necessary microclimate (lighting, heating, ventilation).
  • For workers' wages.

Not all items are mandatory, since the onion growing facility may be owned and no additional labor will be required.

Business advantages:

  • Unpretentiousness to conditions and fast growth of a plant.
  • Minimum financial investment.
  • Fast payback with small volumes.

An example of a business plan for growing onions in a greenhouse:

Name Options
Land area 100 sq. m.
Effective area 75 sq.m.
Average growth time of green onions 3 weeks (21 days)
The volume of grown products for 1 month 350 - 550 kg of green feather
Wholesale cost of planting material 8 rubles / 1 kg
Cost of 1 kg of green feather from 10 to 60 rubles.
Potential green crop losses (due to climate, weather, etc.) 30%
Wholesale cost of selling 1 kg of onion in summer 30 - 50 rubles.
Wholesale cost of selling 1 kg of onions in winter 200 rub.
The number of onions sold per day by large producers 1000 – 3000 kg
The number of onions sold per month by average producers 1500 kg
The size start-up capital needed to start a business 100 - 150 thousand rubles.
The amount of monthly profit at the very beginning of the business when using an area of 75 sq.m. 20 thousand rubles
The amount of monthly profit when growing 3000 kg of onions per month 150 thousand rubles

The profitability of the business of growing onions in a greenhouse is about 30% in winter and more than 50% in the warm season

This difference is explained by the cost of heating and renting a greenhouse. Depending on the scope of activities, a business can pay off in a period of several months to several years.

So far, nothing new has happened to me in the process of growing green onions, I want to talk about the sale of finished products - the sale of onions. I will share how I sell onions, but I would very much like to see a lot of comments directly from you on this note. Namely, how, where and in what way you rent and sell the fruits of your labor - green onions, because the sale of green onions is the main stage of earning for both a beginner and an experienced onion grower.

In the picture below, I sketched cartoons whose purpose is to sell onions, namely my description of my methods. There are three of them in the picture, but in fact I have four of them:

The first is, of course, wholesalers in the wholesale markets who buy and sell green onions;
The second is retail markets where greens and, of course, green onions are sold directly to the end consumer;
The third is its own sale of green onions at the point of sale, whether it be a stall, a bazaar or a counter in the market;
The fourth is workshops that pack green onions in supermarkets, hypermarkets, etc.

I will not describe the fourth source consciously, because, for beginners and onionists with a small volume, there is no required mass harvest to provide these "free gluttons", and whoever has more serious batches of onions himself knows perfectly well what's what and how much.

Photo: Sale of onions

And so I will begin to tell everything in order and where to sell onions from the most profitable source of sales.

The first and most profitable sale of onions takes place on its own in the retail, grocery market to the end consumer. I won’t say that I am a fan of such sales of green onions, I don’t like to waste time on a downtime in the market, but when there is a little bit of time, this becomes a very favorable working condition. The main benefits of self-trading: you have to harvest less from the garden, the ability to control the price yourself, a margin of more than 300%, and of course the most “delicious” is potential customers represented by local traders.

There are some tricks, I hope you understand that it’s stupid to stand with a whole carload of one bow in the market, “distant” buyers will not understand correctly, they will think that they stole from the field somewhere :). Therefore, early in the morning I go to wholesale, I buy 5 kg. dill, 5 kg. parsley, 2 kg. cilantro, 5 kg. lettuce and 10 bunches of regan. Well, now with such a set of greens, I am quite similar to an ordinary dealer. I lay out at the market, knit bundles of 60 grams, all indiscriminately turn on my products - green onions. In our market, the daily price of a counter costs 250 rubles, it is this amount that I beat off with dill and parsley, and from the sale of greens I compensate myself for a market lunch and the cost of depreciation and gasoline. From my green onions, I have a net income. About 200 bunches of onions are sold per day. For clarity, I will give a few numbers: 200 bunches of 60 grams = 12 kg. pen, I think at the lowest prices, I don’t take into account the deficit, everything is much more pleasant there. And so, 200 bundles of 15 rubles each = 3000 rubles. To grow 12 kg. green onions I need to plant 1 bag (35 kg.) of turnips with a 30% yield. In the purchase at a maximum price of 15 rubles / kg. the turnip will cost 525 rubles, plus 20% for distillation costs \u003d 100 rubles, we get a total cost of -625 rubles.

Let's summarize: revenue 3000 - expenses 625 = income 2375. Not bad, right? That's what I like!

But this is not the most profitable, the most profitable is communication with regular market traders, as a rule, they themselves stick with questions about who you are, where you are from and why you came here 🙂 after all, not everyone will like a neighbor with 60 gram bunches of greenery at a price like theirs. To which I give the answer - “if you don’t want to see me here, take all the onions in the morning at the price at which you take them at the wholesaler.” Voila, 95% of traders become my buyers, the main task now is to monitor wholesale prices. They like that green onions are fresh, peppy and delivered to them at the point of call. They willingly pay for this service. A little advice, don’t disappear from the market right away, come to the market to trade onions for some more time with an iron alibi - “this is how I sell MY greens until I have only onions left, then I’ll start bringing you”, fill your price, you will give such behavior understand that if they start to become impudent, then you will be happy to become their neighbor again and your sale of onions will be more profitable :). I had cases when, out of anger, they bought from me both parsley and dill and everything that I have under the counter.

The second most profitable source of onion sales is the same food market traders that I wrote about above. Initially, I made contact with them early in the morning. As a rule, from 5 in the morning, all agricultural producers are rubbing around the market who do not want to sell their goods for wholesale low prices. It turns out such a mini wholesale near the market for lazy retailers. I think it's the same in every region. Believe me, it works, but not very profitable. The disadvantages are that you need to get up very early and go there, there are a lot of people like you, and the worst thing is that there is no fact of a complete sale, you can be left with half of the goods on hand, which then have nowhere to put. You won’t be lucky for wholesale because it’s not enough and they will send you, you won’t get up at retail with one bow. Therefore, the strategy described above, in the first source of onion sales, probably works. So I have more chances to hit the jackpot competently. But still, for such an implementation of green onions, I pack onions in a newspaper of 1 kg. I put standing in a banana for 15-20 packs. At most I sold 3 bananas in the morning. Of the pluses, I note that it is less time wasted, less harvest is harvested than wholesale and the price is slightly higher. Wholesalers in my city give 30-70%, I give 50% of the wholesale price. Under such conditions, you can sell onions to shops, cafes, canteens, etc.

Well, the third source is a wholesaler in the wholesale market. This is a harvester that "eats" anything and everything. Personality, as a rule, is not always pleasant and longing for you on .... bend 🙂 for the price. To be honest, I have immunity to them (I said this in one of my videos), which is what I wish you. I get a kick out of looking at them when we can't agree and they find out my car has a "be careful the trunk closes" option. A little advice for beginners, do not shake, do not worry, do not get lost, stand your ground, I assure you that your products are in demand at any time of the year, because people eat every day, and no more than 10 people grow onions in your city or suburb. Yes, they may have larger volumes, but no one has yet canceled the quality, the larger the onion volumes, the weaker the control, the less profitable the sale of onions. That's how I got started with wholesalers.

Winter, cold, onions grow, a week before harvest. I stop at the wholesale, we immediately have a whole row with greenery there. I must say right away that by nature I am a little arrogant and rude, but I always reciprocate, so to speak, I am not out of the blue. I go into the roller stall closest to the entrance, a girl is sitting there and she is clearly cold, I start a dialogue:

I am good afternoon, do you buy green onions?

She is 50 rubles a kilogram.

I - no, 110 and hands.

Is she bad at math?

I - yes, I was joking 🙂 I'm satisfied with your price, let's go.

Where is she?

I'm like where, for green onions, I told you that I offer onions.

She - where is he?

I am growing in a greenhouse, waiting for you.

She means...

I am straight, I cut at 110, and at 50 it suits me, but you cut yourself.

She is pee pee...

She is pee pee...

In short, I laughed further and left her, moved on. By the way, my mood has risen straight after this lady. I go into the next pavilion, an elderly woman of Caucasian appearance is sitting, by the way, it turned out to be more adequate:

I - hello, take the bow:

She - yes, of course, show me.

I don’t have it with me, I’ve already sold everything, but the price didn’t suit me very much and now I’m looking for a more pleasant buyer for the next week (I had to improvise)

She is 70 rubles per kg for ladies, 8 rubles for bundles.

I didn’t, I only gave 70 and I say the price didn’t suit me very much, I have kilograms packed in a newspaper.

She - take it if good bow. I'll take 90.

I went to a couple of stalls, but everywhere the same thing. I didn’t even get out of the car in the last place, opened the window and said:

I - how much will you take a bow?

She is no more than 90.

I — I’ll take your clients to the market for 130 now, I won’t give less than 110, if you want, call (I wrote her contacts).

Dry, impudent, but they got it, they had a ceiling of 90 rubles that day, and therefore they tried to throw me for the amount 🙂

And what do you think, three days later a call, she called and ordered 80 kg. onions at 110, but I’m not a fool, I’ve already ordered 120 each 🙂 🙂 🙂 so I’m sorry I won’t have time to chop you, and the trump expected answer, God bless you, take 120 I’ll take everything.
There is only one conclusion, we are all people and we want to make money on the bow. That’s just the way you won’t be able to play with them if you have a full trunk of an already packed bow, because there’s no point in taking it back. Therefore, guys, do not be lazy, break through the soil in advance, and wholesale onions only when there are a lot of them, and it’s not a hunt to stand on the market. When you yourself get involved in this activity, you will understand that selling onions is not only profitable, but also exciting.
Thank you for your attention, I look forward to your strategy for the implementation of green onions in the comments. Don't forget to share this post on social media.
