Curling at Domodedovo. Curling Club "New League"

Instead of writing an article about the curling club on Voronezhskaya, I sit and watch the European Curling Championship in Switzerland on Eurosport. Impressions - like in childhood, when you watch the builders looking at the road through the level: it is not clear what they are doing, but it is clear that the citizens are busy. Commentators spend an hour trying to remember who won gold in curling at the Winter Olympics. Then they remember that the Americans liked to show for a long time the Norwegian king Harald V, dressed at home, sitting on the podium, and make a fair conclusion that the Norwegians won the Olympics. Then, in the middle of the broadcast, commentators recall that the Russian team is also participating in this European Championship and, in parallel with the broadcast match (Germany - Scotland), holds its meeting with the Czech team, which, however, no longer has a tournament value. Ten minutes later, they even manage to find out that Russia is not only playing, but also winning.

Everyone must have seen this game at least once on TV: two teams of four people armed with mops each launch stones with handles across the ice to get into the circle that is drawn at the end of the ice path. Some stones have red handles, others have yellow ones. Whose stones in the circle will be more, he won. If you are able to launch a slipper on linoleum so that it stops exactly next to the chair where the husband sits, then you can play curling. For professionals, everything is a little more complicated: each team has a skip (captain), each skip has its own tactics, each throw has its own name, each stone has its own goal. Skips and vice-skips use a stopwatch to measure the speed of the stone and give instructions to those who brush the ice in front of the stone: to rub or not to rub. If you rub hard, the stone rolls faster, if you rub not directly in front of the stone, but a little away from its trajectory, you can change this trajectory a little. If your team is trying to knock someone else's stone out of the circle, you can rub the ice in front of it too: let it roll away.

For everyone who (like me) does not find it strange to run slippers around the apartment and measure the speed of their movement, the Planet Ice curling club is open on Voronezhskaya Street. Unlike the President Russian Federation of curling, who a year ago promised to teach me how to play curling well in 15 years, the owner of the "Planet of Ice" is sure that you can play the first time. I can say one thing for sure: you can roll out the first time, not fall and get into a circle with a stone. And this is quite enough for gambling. In terms of atmosphere and meaning, it is similar to an ordinary Moscow bowling alley, burdened with some shortcomings. Firstly, such a bowling alley, for which you want to go to Domodedovo, has not yet been born. Second, the curling lane is cold. Thirdly, curling is more expensive: an hour of playing on the track before lunch costs 900 rubles, after 19.00 - 2500 rubles. Plus 900 rubles for team training, which, however, will be needed once. On the other hand, it is rather strange to compare prices in the only Moscow curling club with the prices of bowling establishments, which in Moscow are no less than cigarette stalls. Brushes, stones, a pair of sneakers, sliders for sliding (plastic for beginners and professional ones similar to galoshes, only with a Teflon coating) are attached to the rented track for free. The instructors are members of the Russian curling team (it is strange that they are both in Switzerland and on Voronezhskaya Street at the same time, but, apparently, in such a backward curling state as Russia, everyone who knows how to play at least somehow immediately gets into national team).

Finally - for like-minded people - I give the results of the movement of my slippers on my linoleum. Italian home slippers cover a distance of 4 meters in 1.67 seconds. Moroccan grandmothers - in 1.21 seconds. Bath slippers from Converse do not reach the end, too heavy. Instructive.
