Fabio Capello was born to Guerrino and Evelina Capello. His father, a school teacher, played football as a child, and his uncle, Mario Tortul (brother of Fabio's mother, Evelina), was a famous football player who played 1 match for the Italian national team. Thanks to their influence, Capello's entire childhood was connected with football.

SPAL

Fabio Capello began his career at Pieris, coached by his father, Guerrino. There he was discovered by the coach of the SPAL club, Paolo Mazza, with whom Capello signed his first professional contract with the club for 2 million lire. In his second season with the team, Capello won the Italian Youth Championship and on March 29, 1964, made his debut for the club's first team in a match with Sampdoria, in which SPAL lost 1:3, and then played 4 more games, but did not save the club from relegation to Serie B In the 1965/1966 season, when the club returned to Serie A, Capello became a solid player in the team's core and also became the team's main penalty taker. Capello was also called up to the Italian U23 national team, where he was included along with teammate Edoardo Reggi. In the 1966/1967 season, Capello played only 16 matches, the reason for which was a left knee injury.

"Roma"

In 1967, Capello moved to Roma, which withstood competition from Juventus, Bologna, Inter and Milan, who also wanted to buy the midfielder. Capello made his Roma debut on September 24, 1967 in a match against Inter. And 2 years later he won his first trophy, the Italian Cup. At Roma, Capello played under the guidance of famous coach Helenio Herrera, who is considered Capello's mentor.

Juventus

After some time, Capello moved to Juventus, where he made his debut on September 6, 1970 in the Italian Cup match with Novara (2:2). With the Old Lady, Capello won 3 Italian championships and became a solid member of the Italian national team. As part of the national team, Capello scored a historic goal on November 14, 1973, which brought his team the first victory in the history of the Azzurra squad over the English at Wembley.

"Milan"

In 1976, Capello moved to Milan. He made his debut for the Rossoneri on August 29, 1976 in a Coppa Italia match with Catania, which Milan won 2-0. With Milan, Capello won the Italian Cup and the Italian Championship. In 1980, he ended his career after a corruption scandal, which resulted in Milan being sent to Serie B. Capello played his last official match on May 11, 1980, in an away game of the Italian championship with Lazio, in which Milan was stronger than 2 :0.

Coaching career

"Milan"

Capello began his coaching career in 1987 at Milan, which he led in the last 6 games of the season, replacing the sacked Nils Liedholm. Capello was able to achieve a place with Milan, allowing the club to participate in the UEFA Cup, defeating Sampdoria in the decisive match. After that, Capello did not coach, but worked in the administrative apparatus of Milan. After Arrigo Sacchi was fired from the club, Capello was appointed head coach of Milan. The decision was said to have been hasty due to Capello's lack of experience. However, the Rossoneri, with Capello at the helm, had several successful years. The club won 4 Italian championships and the Champions League, and also played in the finals of this tournament twice. With Capello, Milan set a Serie A record for the number of matches without defeat - 58 meetings. In the 1991/1992 season, the club became the champion of Italy, without suffering a single defeat in 34 matches. Another club record under Fabio Capello is 6 wins in 6 matches in the group stage of the 1992/1993 Champions League with a goal difference of 11-1.

"Real Madrid"

On May 20, 1996, Capello took charge of Real Madrid. About which he said before his appointment: “The possible interest of Real Madrid fills me with pride.” Capello clearly stated his goal before the start of the season: “To transform Madrid into the best team in Spain, Europe and the world.” However, this statement did not please Real Madrid president Lorenzo Sanz, who said: “Capello was hired to win, not to give concerts.” Despite the fact that the club strengthened itself before the start of the season, having bought Davor Suker, Predrag Mijatovic, Clarence Seedorf, Bodo Illgner, Carlos Secretariu and Roberto Carlos, the Italian coach asked to buy more players, including Christian Carambu, who only moved to Real Madrid a year later.

Soon after the start of the championship, an absentee “war” began between Capello and Sanz, who made statements blaming each other. Sans started first, saying: “He still has time to fix everything to give a spectacle. You can’t tire the crowd at the Bernabeu, they’ll get tired of it.” But Capello said: "With the players we have, we can't do better." Sanz made concessions to Capello and bought him Christian Panucci and Ze Roberto. As a result, the club won the Spanish championship, 2 points ahead of Barcelona, but it was still criticized by the club's fans and the press for overly pragmatic and unspectacular football. After which, Capello decided to leave Madrid: “I lacked respect. I don't understand why Sans doesn't stop saying this to me when the team wins." While working with Real, Raul began to regularly play in the club's main squad, and Emilio Butragueno also ended his career.

"Milan"

In 1997, Capello returned to Milan, but the club had a poor season, finishing in 10th place and losing to Lazio in the Coppa Italia final. In the same season, Milan lost 0:5 to Roma.

After the failure with Milan, Capello worked for one season as a commentator for the Rai TV channel.

"Roma"

In 1999, Capello took charge of Roma, signing a contract with an annual payment of 8 billion liras per year. With this club, Capello won the Italian championship, the third in the history of the Gialorossi, and also became the silver medalist of the championship twice with the club. Capello's period at Roma was characterized by a conflict with the team's best forward, Vincenzo Montella. Capello was declared a traitor by Roma officials after it became known that he would lead Juventus, although Capello had previously announced that he would never coach the Old Lady.

Juventus

In 2004, Capello took charge of Juventus and won two Italian championships with the club, but both titles were later taken away from the club due to Calciopoli. At Juventus, under Capello, Zlatan Ibrahimovic started playing, and also lost his place in the team’s starting team for some time, due to a conflict with the coach, Alessandro Del Piero. The Italian media compared the conflict between Del Piero and Capello with the conflict between the Greek king Agamemnon and the Greek warrior Achilles, which they had during the Trojan War.

"Real Madrid"

On July 4, 2006, Capello was fired as coach of Juve, but the next day, July 5, he signed a contract with Real Madrid until 2009. Capello won the Spanish championship with Real Madrid, but was sacked by the club's president, Ramon Calderon, at the end of the season. During Capello's tenure at Real Madrid, two players such as David Beckham and Antonio Cassano were fired from the club due to lack of commitment. After this, Capello returned to commentating again, working for Rai.

England team

On December 14, 2007, Capello led the England team, which did not make it to the 2008 European Championship. The contract with Capello was signed for 4 years with an annual payment of 5.5 million euros. The contract was signed by Capello only after he persuaded the leaders of English football to appoint his own assistants, who were Italo Galbiati, the second coach, Franco Tancredi, the goalkeeping coach, Massimo Neri, the physical training coach and Franco Baldini as general manager. On February 6, 2008, Anguilla played its first match under Capello, beating Switzerland 2-1. Later, under his leadership, England took first place in the group and reached the final tournament of the 2010 World Cup. England also twice defeated Croatia, which had previously, having won in the last round, prevented them from qualifying for the European Championship. In the last round, England, which had already left the group in first place, lost to Ukraine, which was satisfied only with a victory (otherwise Croatia would have been ahead of them), which gave rise to rumors about a possible “surrender” of the match in order to prevent the Croats from qualifying for the World Cup.

Personal life

Capello is married to his high school sweetheart, Laura, whom he met at a bus stop as a teenager. They have a son, Pierfillipot, who works as Fabio's agent.

Fabio Capello made many controversial comments, including support for the policies of Francisco Franco, Spain's mid-20th century generalissimo.

Capello is a big fan of fine art. The collection of works he acquired is valued at approximately $27.5 million. Capello's favorite artist is the Russian painter Wassily Kandinsky. Capello loves opera and also spends his evenings listening to classical music.

Prosecution

On January 16, 2008, Capello was listed as a possible culprit for tax evasion while working in Turin. However, Capello's charges were later dropped and his connection to the case was presented as part of a routine check on wealthy Italians.

On March 31, 2008, it was announced that Capello was to be questioned by prosecutors due to his refusal to provide information to investigators. The state prosecutor intended to bring in Capello and former Juventus CEO Antonio Girodo to testify against six defendants in the Gea World sports agency case, who used violence and threats in their activities.

March 29 1964 Capello made his debut for the first team in the match against Sampdoria, which SPAL lost with a score of 3:1. Until the end of the season, Fabio played in several more games, but this did not help the club remain in Serie A.

This went on until 1991 years until Capello received the post of head coach of the Rossoneri. Many were unhappy with this appointment, but Capello justified the trust of the club management.

Under the leadership of Fabio Capello, Milan became the champion of Italy 4 times, won the Champions Cup, and also won silver in this tournament twice.

IN 1996 In 2009, Capello accepted the offer of Real Madrid President Lorenzo Sansa and took charge of the Spanish club. After spending only one season at the club, Capello won the Spanish championship, but due to criticism from fans and the same Lorenzo Sanza, he was forced to leave the club.

IN 1997 In the same year, Fabio Capello again took charge of Milan, but in the first season the club managed to reach only 10th place in Serie A and second place in the Spanish Cup.

After an unsuccessful season at Milan, Capello left his coaching career for a year and worked as a commentator on the RAI TV channel.

IN 1999 Capello signed a contract with Roma, with whom he worked until 2004 of the year. During this time, the club became the winner of Serie A and also won silver in the tournament twice.

IN 2004 In 2014, Fabio Capello became the coach of Juventus Turin, with whom he worked for two seasons. During these two seasons, Capello led Juventus to the Italian title twice, but both titles were later taken away from the club due to a corruption scandal. At this time, he started playing at Juventus. was an alternative , who often did not take the field due to conflicts with Capello.

In summer 2006 year, after Capello left Juventus, he again signed a contract with Real Madrid, calculated until 2009 of the year. However, at the end of the season 2006 /2007 The club's management fired Capello from the post of head coach; even the Spanish champion title, which the club won under the leadership of Fabio, did not help.

After his dismissal from Real Madrid, Fabio Capello again became a commentator on RAI.

Only in December 2007 year he returned to coaching. Capello led the England team, which did not qualify for the European Championship 2008 of the year.

Under the leadership of Capello, the England team came out of first place in the qualifying tournament for the World Cup. 2010 , but did not perform very well in the final part of the tournament. In the 1/8 of the World Cup, the British lost to the German team with a score of 4:1, which happened for the first time since 1954 of the year.

Despite the poor performance at the tournament, Capello remained at the helm of the England team and coached them until February 2012 year, when he left the post of coach of the national team due to disagreement with the decision of the English Football Association to deprive John Terry of the captain's armband in the national team.

In summer 2012 Fabio Capello accepted an offer from the Russian Football Union to lead the Russian national team for £6.7 million a year.

Coaching career Fabio Capello began in 1987 - by that time he, playing as a player for Juventus, Milan And "Roma", collected a set of three championships and two Italian Cups.

Fabio finished his playing career at Milan and began his coaching career there. For 31 years in the profession, in addition to the Rossoneri, he worked with Real Madrid, Juventus And "Roma", won 15 trophies at club level, including seven league titles in Italy, two in Spain and the Champions League cup in the 1993/94 season.

As a coach of the national team, Capello succeeded much less - with England team he worked at the 2010 World Cup, where the Three Lions finished at the 1/8 final stage, losing to Germany (1:4).

Four months before Euro 2012, Don Fabio announced his resignation from the England team due to disagreements with the FA that arose after the story of being stripped of the captain's armband. John Terry.

The Italian specialist led the Russian national team to the 2014 world championship, where it failed to qualify from the group.

And during the next cycle it was replaced by Leonid Slutsky, since it was necessary to save the situation in the Euro 2016 qualifying, where the team risked not getting into.

As a result, Russia remembers the legendary scandal with Capello’s compensation for early termination of his contract much more than the successes of the Russian national team under him. Various amounts were reported in the press, reaching 15-20 million euros.

At the end of March, Don Fabio left his post as head coach "Jiangsu Suning"– the contract was terminated by mutual consent of the parties. Jiangsu Suning is Capello's first and last team after the Russian national team, which he led from 2012 to 2015.

  • I won in Italy, in Madrid, we performed well with the England team. I was happy to work in Russia, because together with the team we made it to the World Cup for the first time in 12 years, beating Portugal in qualifying. It was a good time! In general, at different times in different countries in different cultures, everything was wonderful. What was the most difficult thing? Victory in the Champions League with Milan. It was a real challenge! It wasn't easy at Real either. When I took over the team, it was much inferior to Barcelona - about 9-10 points. But we won back this lead and won the title! I think you will agree that winning back nine points from Barcelona is difficult.

  • Now Capello is an expert

“A couple of weeks ago, Fabio Capello finished his job at the Chinese Jiangsu Suning, and now he has announced that he has retired from football for good.

Fabio is now 71 years old. In case anyone has forgotten, he left Russia in 2015 - having received 930 million rubles (15 million euros) from the RFU for terminating his contract. After that, he didn’t work anywhere for almost two years and in the summer of 2017 he moved to China, where they also paid very generously (10 million euros per season).

Last season, Capello finished twelfth (out of 16), started the new season poorly and left after three rounds (his team had suffered two defeats by that time, one with a score of 1:4).

“It was a good experience,” the coach said in an interview with Radio Anch’io Lo Sport. “There is a completely different type of football there. But the real challenge was communication with the players. A translator was always needed, because football players in China do not speak many languages.”

They wanted to appoint Capello as the head of the Italian national team? No. Capello says he didn't consider that option.

“I didn’t plan to join the national team,” said Capello. “Working at Jiangsu Suning was my last coaching experience.”

Capello announced that after finishing his career he would go into television. “I want to work as an expert. I like it, and in this case you will never lose.”

And it will be powerful. Capello has already blown up the media several times with sharp phrases, but now he will have even more time for such analytics,” the editors of Sports.ru say goodbye to the coach.

    ABC Capello

"Guerrino Capello. Fabio's father was a school teacher, but he loved to play football, as did Fabio's maternal uncle, Mario Tortul, who achieved significant success in this field and even once played for the Italian national team. These two men instilled in the young Padawan a love of football that Fabio carried through his life and career.

"Juventus". The main club in Capello's football career: seven seasons, three championship titles, it was from Turin that Fabio began to be constantly called up to the Italian national team. As a coach, Capello worked with Juventus for two seasons on the eve of Calciopoli: Don Fabio won two Scudetto for the Old Lady, which were subsequently taken away from the Turin team.

Johan Cruyff. Capello faced Cruyff in Cup/Champions League finals as a player and coach. In 1973, Juventus, with Capello in the lineup, lost to Ajax with the brilliant Cruyff, but 21 years later revenge took place. Don Fabio, already as the coach of Milan, in the decisive battle for the European club crown, destroyed Johan’s Barcelona with a score of 4:0,” the blogger Soccer.Ru alphabetizes the milestones of Capello’s career.

    Aristocrat

“He is an aristocratic man in the full sense of the word. Like a Southern American gentleman from old novels and films. Very scrupulous in some matters and very demanding when it comes to discipline. For him she was the cornerstone. He lived for football. Although not only them. As a general, Fabio demanded that all his commands be carried out. But as for ordinary life, you could joke with him quite calmly and communicate as equals. He, of course, understood the caliber of man he was.

There was a moment when they started discussing one football player in some away match. There was a rumor that Real Madrid was interested in him. Everyone was arguing whether this could be true or not. And then Fabio said that the easiest way to check is to call Real Madrid president Florentino Perez. He opened his phone and said: “If necessary, I’ll call.” Can you imagine what kind of notebook he has? I remember there was a case when we could not fly out of England when we played there with the Brazilians. There was a slight delay, microscopic. And Capello was irritated by any, even minor, deviation from the schedule. He rummaged through his phone and said that he would now call the director of this airline, whom he knew well. This scale of greatness was amazing.

When Capello first arrived in Russia, his every step was accompanied by an insane excitement. Wherever he appeared, he immediately became the center of attention. Then, at some point, he began to not understand why, after the first misfires, the attitude towards him changed. Suddenly he stopped being the magician that everyone wanted to see on the team,” recalls former press attache of the Russian national team Ilya Kazakov.

    Tarnished reputation

“If you look through the last 10 years of Fabio Capello’s life, it may seem that he is a so-so coach.

The Italian specialist had Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard at his disposal, but did not take the English beyond the 1/8 finals of the 2010 World Cup. Fans of the Russian national team still cannot sleep peacefully because of the millions that Fabio received upon early termination of his contract. Jiangsu Suning got into trouble when they signed a coach until 2020 and offered a salary of 8 million euros per year - Capello lasted only 10 months and left the game.

Such sadness did not always happen. Before starting work with the England team in December 2007, Don Fabio had a triumphant resume. 13 trophies and specialization in domestic competitions - every team coached by Capello won the national championship at least once.

In Spain, the tactician worked according to the scheme for two seasons - two championships. The first arrival at Real was limited to just one year due to disagreements with president Lorenzo Sansem. Capello lured such masters as Roberto Carlos, Clarence Seedorf, Predrag Mijatovic and Davor Suker to Madrid, but the team did not play spectacularly - this infuriated the head of the club.

They turned to the Italian's services again in 2006 - by that time the Galacticos had served three seasons without trophies. Capello, of course, won the championship, but again faced dismissal due to pragmatic football,” the Eurosport author recalls from the co-author of the biography. Ilya Yashinin.

  • The hardest thing was to deal with the best of those I coached - Ronaldo. Returning to Madrid after injury, he weighed 96 kilograms. I asked how much he weighed when he won the world championship. He replied that it was 84. I asked to reset it to at least 88, but it was only enough for 94. In this form, Ronaldo played three matches - we lost all three.
  • Fabio Capello
  • Best coach of the Russian national team

“When Fabio worked in Russia, financial indicators - his salary - outweighed the objective opinion of him as a specialist. Now we can say that Capello was the best coach who has worked with the national team over the past 10 years.

The mentality of our players and the patterns encoded in our minds certainly require a dictator who would instill iron logic. Capello was him. Time has proven him right. Everyone then wondered why he didn’t take Dziuba, but took Smolov with him, who didn’t score for a long time. But it is now clear that Capello saw his great potential.

There were agreements that Capello would lead the entire pyramid of the national team - youth and youth teams. He was ready to work. But Capello saw the confrontation between elite clubs and Nikolai Tolstoy. He has been in football for a long time and understood that he needed to stick to the position of the clubs that give him players. It turned out to be not the most favorable political situation for working as a head coach. At that time, all elements of Russian football were not configured to achieve results for the national team - Capello found it difficult to work in such a configuration. But Fabio made the most of what he had,” recalls the former RFU General Secretary Anatoly Vorobiev.

  • The media is part of football in any part of the world. I often communicate with journalists. The whole question is whether you win or lose. If you win, they ask you good questions, if you lose, they ask you bad questions. And so on anywhere in the world.
  • Fabio Capello
  • The Russian team did not deserve it

“When Capello first came to us, it seemed that Russia did not really deserve such a coach. Who should he work with? With Arshavin, who was in decline, and whom Fabio immediately abandoned? With Kokorin, in whom he saw great potential? With Faizulin?

And you know - the Italian worked. And with Kokorin, who began to actively score for the national team, and with Fayzulin, who turned into the most important player in the middle of the field, and with everyone else. Capello valued artisans and hard workers. That’s why Glushakov and Kombarov, Shatov and Fayzulin played consistently for him.

Those who missed the romance of Hus’s time laughed at the Italian’s “tin soldiers,” but laughter was laughter, and due to discipline, Russia under Capello did not lose a single match larger than 0:1.

Cherchesov seems to be betting on the same thing, and prefers players who are simpler, but more reliable, and there is much less sense - every match, there are three goals in our goal. Even in the most difficult moments, Capello never got more than one shot. And he exchanged victories with Portugal, and beat up Brazil, and received one goal from Belgium at the very end.

It all seemed that Russia as a team was too small for him, too cramped. How can you use your skills if yesterday you were raising Cassano, and today you are motivating Kanunnikov? But Capello dismissed these conversations.

“You are not always lucky with a generation, with big stars, but you are obliged to make a team, because a coach is a creator who must find a solution,” he said in one of our interviews.

But his creativity did not meet with understanding - neither among the fans, nor, the saddest thing, in the team. The harsh, somewhat dictatorial methods outraged the football players who were accustomed to the relaxed atmosphere of the times of Hus and Dick. That’s why, by the way, Capello was looking for ways to attract new players,” the author of “Sport Express” says nostalgically. Dmitry Zelenov.

  • The decision to lead the Russian team was not a mistake, it was interesting. You need to try yourself in different countries, different cultures. I'm interested in learning something new. In addition, I love to travel and have gotten to know many countries. It’s good when you’re in demand at home, in Italy, but if you have the opportunity to leave and work, that’s even better, right? Why did I go to China? Because I had a chance to work at a club after two national teams, and even in a country where I had never been. I was interested in trying

    Biography

Fabio Capello was born on June 18, 1946 in San Cancian d'Isonzo (an ancient town of 5,000 people in the province of Gorizia, Friuli-Venezia Giulia region, Italy; east on the top of the “boot”, near Trieste).

From early childhood, little Fabio began to play football - his uncle (mother's brother) Mario Tortul was a famous Italian football player - in the youth team of the town of Pieris, which was coached by his father, Guerrino. Even then, Capello had a technique that none of his peers possessed. The promising boy was scouted by SPAL team coach Paolo Mazza, and at the age of 16 Capello went to Ferrara, where he signed his first contract worth two million lire. At first, he was not trusted with a place in the lineup - and this is quite logical. However, three years later the team found itself in Serie B, lost its stars, and the coach was forced to turn his attention to youth. And Capello was among those who helped the team return to Serie A, and two years later helped fight for survival. He, along with teammate Edoardo Regei, was also called up to the Italian U23 national team.

So, already at the age of 19, he became the leader and main penalty taker of the team, where everyone understood that his transition to a stronger team was a matter of time. And so it happened - in 1966, Roma acquired it for 250 million lire. At that time, the Roman team was not just on the rise - since the Wolves had young and promising players on their roster, they were ready to “rush to the top.” The team was led by Magician Eulenio Herrera - he created an almost ideal team capable of fighting with the strongest clubs in Italy. It was at Roma that Capello won his first trophy, the National Cup, and Fabio later said that it was in Rome that he “grew up and became a star.”

In 1970, he, along with Landini and Spinosi, was sold to Juventus, which caused a flurry of indignation among the tiffosi. Together with the Turin team, Fabio won three Scudetto, became a player of the national team and one of the strongest central midfielders of that time. In 1976, Capello moved to Milan, where, having finally won the Italian Cup and another Scudetto, he retired. After the Milan team was promoted to Serie B in 1980.

While still a Rossoneri player, he began to learn coaching from the great coach, Nils Liedholm. Having worked for 4 years in the youth sector of Milan, Fabio simultaneously completed coaching courses in Coversiano, and in 1986 became the head coach of the Rossoneri. But the team took fifth place, and he lost the coaching position to Arrigo Sacchi, who won everything with Milan. He himself began working as a manager, coordinating all sports projects of Berlusconi’s Mediulanum Sport group, including rugby, hockey and volleyball. At this time, he learned to be a manager, analyzed management in other sports for its application in football. Then he replaced Sacchi at the helm of the team - and was able to win with the team from 1991 to 1996: 4 Scudetto (1992, 1993, 1994, 1996), three Italian Super Cups (1992, 1993, 1994), European Super Cup (1994), three times led Milan to the Champions League final, and in 1994 won the main trophy.

In 1996, Fabio was recognized as the best coach in the world by the AIFP (International Association of Professional Footballers). At the end of the 1995/1996 season, Capello was offered to extend his contract, but he refused and moved to Spain, where he became the coach of Real Madrid, where he was invited by the president of the royal club Lorenzo Sanz (the coach took Cristiano Panucci with him). In his first year he won the national championship, and at the end of the season he refused to renew his contract and returned to Milan. But - 11th place, and, leaving the Rossoneri, Capello initially decided to become a television commentator on Rai. But then an invitation arrived from Roma president Franco Sensi, and Capello in Rome created the most beautiful team in the world, tough in defense and creative in attack.

In the first season, the Wolves finished sixth, and the next year they won the long-awaited championship. Then a failed transfer campaign followed and the Romans slid downwards - losing the final match of the Italian Cup and eighth place in the championship. Capello did not break, and the next season he managed to “put together” the strongest team in his career. However, Roma failed to win anything, Capello “broke down” and left for Juventus in 2004. Just as when he was a player, Don Fabio won two Scudetto with the Turin team, which were later taken away because of Calciopoli. Under him, Zlatan Ibrahimovic started playing in the team, and Alessandro Del Piero, due to a conflict with his mentor, lost his place in the team for some time. On June 4, 2006, Capello was fired, and on June 5 he signed a three-year contract with Real Madrid. “Cream” took the championship gold, but at the end of the season, club president Ramon Calderon fired the coach. And the coach returned to commentating again, working for Rai. By the way, under Don Fabio, the Galacticos terminated the contract with David Beckham and Antonio Cassano.

On December 14, 2007, Capello, after the disastrous elimination of the England team from the qualifying tournament for Euro 2008, accepted the FFA offer to lead the team. The agreement was concluded for 4 years with an annual payment of 5.5 million euros. Already in the first match, his players won against the Swiss, and in the qualifying tournament for the 2010 World Cup, from the first metsa in the group they reached the final stage of the competition.

In May 2010, Don Fabio said that after the end of his contract with the national team he intended to retire: “The post of head coach of the England national team will be my last. I really like what I’m doing now, I really like the lifestyle accepted in London. As soon as my contract with the English Football Federation ends, I will leave big-time football."

However, he then agreed to amendments to the contract, after which he would coach the English until Euro 2012.

Capello is married to his high school sweetheart Laura, and the couple has a son, Pierfillipo, who works as his father's agent. A big fan of painting, the value of the acquired paintings is estimated at approximately 27.5 million dollars. Favorite artist - Wassily Kandinsky. Loves classical music.

    WINNER WITH A CAPITAL L

“This will be the final stage of my career. It would be great to finish it in the best possible way,” said Fabio Capello, signing a contract with the English Football Association in 2007. Now the Italian is literally a few hours away from signing a contract with the Russian national team. And this is perhaps the only case when Capello’s words differed from deeds. Over the 26 years of his coaching career, he accustomed his players and the public to the presence of a whole set of principles from which he was not accustomed to deviate.

    Note to Arshavin and Co.

The Russian national team players should prepare for the fact that Don Fabio will keep them under a tight rein. At his first training session as the head coach of Milan in 1991, he explained to his players that there are no favorites for a coach, as a result of which, by the way, the star Dutch trio Gullit - van Basten - Rijkaard also got it. At the same time, the Italian perfectly understood that the success of the team depended on these players, so at the initial stage he announced Gullit’s “complete freedom of action” on the field, which resulted in the Rossoneri’s unconditional victory in Serie A. At that time, in the Italian championship, at the same time, Only three foreign players could be on the field, so Capello, without a twinge of conscience, left many of his stars on the bench, including Ballon d'Or winner Jean-Pierre Papin.

But almost everyone noted that for Mr. “everyone is equal.” In the presence of Zenit and army coalitions, this fact can have a beneficial effect on the atmosphere in the team. Moreover, the Italian, despite all his rigidity in the training process, always met his wards halfway in everyday life. The history of the time when the coach first came to Real Madrid is indicative. Predrag's two-year-old son Mijatovic was unexpectedly hospitalized, and the footballer had to spend the whole night in the hospital next to him. The next morning, my father came to the team’s training session, preparing for the most important match with Barcelona. Fabio knew about what had happened and told his ward to “go back to the hospital, as this is much more important than any football.” The player insisted on continuing training, and the specialist created a free schedule especially for him until his son’s recovery. In the match with the blue garnets, Real won 2:0, and Mijatovic scored one of the goals.

And if in a similar situation many other specialists would have done the same, then one more case should be indicative for Andrei Arshavin and company. After Roma's defeat to Inter 0:2, half of the Roman team went to a disco, where they were caught by the paparazzi. A day later, Capello was invited to a TV show, where they showed these pictures, asking a reasonable question: “Why do the players on your team allow themselves to have fun after a defeat?” To which Mr. unexpectedly stated that he himself suggested that the guys unwind in this way and that it would not affect the championship chances of the “wolves.” As ex-Roma player Sergei Gurenko later said, the Italian, naturally, did not know about any disco, but quickly got his bearings, deciding to take the blow on himself! The players appreciated this act by winning Serie A.

    Doesn't change his style

Another positive aspect of choosing the RFU is Capello’s success in several championships at once. This specialist is not a homebody and readily changes clubs if he sees that he can’t give anything more to the team or has lost a common language with the management. Don Fabio won the Italian championship seven times, the Spanish championship twice, and the Champions League. True, two titles in Italy were eventually taken away from him due to a high-profile investigation known as “calciopoli,” but this does not detract from the coach’s merits.

The main thing is to understand what Russian functionaries want from a coach: results or beautiful football? More than once during his career, Capello faced situations where the championship title resulted in dismissal with the wording “unspectacular game”. After four Scudettos and a victory in the Champions League with Milan, the management of the red-and-blacks insisted on including a clause in the contract about the obligatory winning of something. The Italian could not come to terms with this approach and left the team. The Rossoneri regretted this decision almost immediately, since Oscar Tabares, who arrived, turned out to be too much of a democrat, dismissing his players. Don Fabio was invited to Real Madrid, where he immediately wiped his nose with Barcelona, but problems arose again with the club’s board. The specialist had to leave the team, but the foundation that had been built was enough for the Galacticos, with Jupp Heynckess, to become the strongest in the main European Cup tournament the following season. Capello will face the same rake in 2007, when he will be asked to leave the Los Blancos camp after another triumph in the example. He is not used to changing his style.

It was after that situation with Ramon Calderon that Tsirkul, as the 66-year-old coach is called, swore off working with clubs. The only alarming fact is that at the national team level he has not yet come close to the successes he achieved in Italy and Spain. You have to be prepared for the fact that the specialist’s track record only includes work with the England national team and he lacks the experience that Guus Hiddink had, for example. Don Fabio is good over the long haul, when he has the opportunity to see his players every day and structure the process so that the players approach important matches in the same shape. He didn’t have such an opportunity in England, and he won’t have it in Russia either.

Perhaps the English Football Federation would have continued to put up with the football demonstrated by the national team under Capello, especially since nothing much had changed under Roy Hodgson, but the Italian’s stern disposition had an impact again. He did not like the interference of functionaries in the affairs of the team when they confronted him with a fact - John Terry, due to his sexual adventures and racial scandal, should no longer be captain. Don Fabio did not put up with the fact that someone was interfering in his work and encroaching on his authority, as a result of which he resigned as head coach. Despite the Three Lions' inglorious defeat in the 1/8 finals of the World Cup in South Africa, in terms of win percentage, the 66-year-old specialist turned out to be the most successful coach in the history of the English national team, winning 67% of matches.

Capello is a winner with a capital “W.” Since childhood, his parents taught him to achieve his goals without changing himself. While a player with the Squadra Azzurra, he became one of the few whose name was not sullied in history at the 1974 World Cup, when the Italians were accused of inviting the Poles to play a match. You can be sure that work in Russia will be the last for a specialist and he will probably want to slam the door loudly. “A place in the national team must be earned by behavior, play and attitude. I want to talk to the players and make sure that it is an honor for them to play for the national team,” the specialist noted more than once. Who, if not him, can rid the national team of random “passengers” and form a core of those who are truly ready to fight for the honor of their homeland?

An Italian by nationality, Fabio Capello, as a football coach, gave preference to the clubs of his homeland, and everyone he worked with brought him to the top step of the podium in the national championship. Having once led the England national team, he became its most successful coach in terms of percentage of victories.

In Russia, Fabio has an ambiguous attitude. Throughout Capello’s tenure at the helm of the national team, talk about the coach’s unreasonably high salary overshadowed the glimmers of moral satisfaction from the players’ performances.

However, those who encountered Capello noted his innate aristocracy, combined with rigidity and mandatory adherence to established rules. The biography of Fabio Capello represents a long and interesting journey from an ordinary player to an effective coach of club and national teams.

    Childhood and youth

Fabio Capello was born on June 18, 1946 in Italy, in the city of Pieris, in the family of Guerrino and Evelina Capello. My son’s sports career was predetermined from an early age. Fabio's father played in the 3rd division of the Italian football championship in his youth.

Later, in the 50s, Guerrino became the coach of the team of the same name in the city of Pieris. Fabio's uncle, Mario Tortul, was also a footballer and even once played for the Italian national team.

    Footballer's career

Fabio Capello began his career as a football player at the Pieris club, where his father and uncle became his mentors. There, the young promising footballer was noticed by SPAL club coach Paolo Mazza, who was impressed by Fabio’s results and invited him to join his team. After playing only a couple of seasons in the youth team, in March 1964 Capello became a player in the first team of the SPAL club. Here Fabio went from an ordinary football player to a solid first-team player and the best penalty taker.

In 1967, Fabio preferred Roma to Juventus, Inter and Milan, who wanted to get the player, and after 2 years he won his first significant prize - the Italian Cup.

After some time, the athlete moved to Juventus, with which he won 3 Italian championships in the first half of the 1970s. After a series of successful matches, Fabio Capello becomes a permanent member of the Italian national football team.

As part of the Italian national team, Fabio experienced the peak of his career: in 1973, during a game with the England national team, he scored the only goal, which allowed the Italians to defeat the English for the first time in an away match. In 1976, Fabio moved to Milan, where he won another Italian Cup. In 1980, Capello ended his football career.

    Coaching career

A few years later, Fabio Capello takes over as coach of the Milan club. While working at Milan as a substitute coach, Fabio ensured that the club's first team was able to compete for the UEFA Cup. Then the mentor retired from coaching for several years and took up the administrative affairs of the team.

However, already in 1991, Capello again took charge of Milan. Despite the fact that many representatives of the Italian football community had doubts about his candidacy as a coach due to his limited coaching experience, Fabio's achievements during his time at Milan were impressive.

Fabio Capello as Milan head coach

Under his leadership, the Devils won 4 Italian championships, the Champions League, and also won 3 Italian Super Cups and a European Super Cup.

In 1996, Capello took over the leadership of the notorious Real Madrid. Under his leadership, the club was again able to win the Spanish championship title. However, having failed to reach a consensus with the management of Real on a number of issues, a year later the Italian returned to Milan again.

Real Madrid head coach Fabio Capello

Afterwards, Fabio worked for some time as a TV commentator on the RIA channel.

In 1999, Fabio Capello was appointed head coach of the Roma club, which under his leadership already won the Italian Championship in 2001 and won the national Super Cup. In 2004, Capello left Roma and became coach of Juventus.

Fabio Capello as Roma head coach

Despite the excellent reputation of the Italian specialist, the biography of Fabio Capello also has a number of provocative moments. For example, in 2006, he became involved in a loud scandal that erupted due to the fact that Juventus was accused of fixing matches.

    Juventus head coach Fabio Capello

In 2007, Capello signed a lucrative contract for a period of 4.5 years and led the England national team. According to the contract, Fabio Capello's salary was € 5.5 million per year. Under his leadership, the English team, which had not previously qualified for the 2008 European Championship, was able to participate in the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

In February 2012, Fabio had to resign as coach of the English national team due to the fact that the English Football Association stripped John Terry of the captaincy due to racist remarks.

After Euro 2012, the position of the main coach of the Russian national team became vacant, and the sports community named Fabio Capello among the possible candidates. The Russian Football Union included Fabio in the list of 13 possible coaches of the Russian national team. After agreeing on all the terms of the contract with the RFU, on July 26, 2012, Capello assumed the position of chief coach of the Russian team.

According to some reports, Fabio Capello's contract provided for a payment of €5 million per year. However, the Italian's achievements as coach of the Russian team fully justify his price. The Russian national team successfully played its matches in 2013 and received the long-awaited opportunity to go to the 2014 World Cup. According to the results of the draw, Russia played in Group H, where its opponents were Belgium, Algeria and South Korea.

Several times Capello was offered to leave the Russian team and head the Italian Roma and other famous clubs, but Fabio said in an interview that working with the Russian team would be the last in his sports career. In January 2014, Fabio Capello's contract was extended until the end of the 2018 World Cup. At the same time, data appeared that Fabio Capello’s salary increased to € 9 million for a year of working with Russian football players.

Naturally, after the successful performance of the national team in the 2014 World Cup qualifying round, the Russians were expected to achieve success and win in the championship finals. The coach of the Russian national team said that he expected to reach the quarter finals, but this did not happen. The team did not win a single victory and did not advance from the group.

During the group stage of the 2016 European Championship, Capello’s team did not, to put it mildly, show the kind of football that was so expected from them. In qualifying for the championship, Russia suffers failure after failure. After the defeat, Fabio was sent into retirement. As a result of the failure of the contract, the Italian specialist received a penalty of € 15 million.

Capello has said more than once that his least favorite score is 2:0 in favor of the team he leads. Such numbers on the scoreboard greatly discourage the players. It seems that the main work is done and there is no need to strain further. However, one goal from the opponent and the advantage is lost, and we have to re-engage in the fight. And at this time, the players may be tired, and the end of playing time may still be far away.

    Personal life

Fabio's personal life, unlike his football life, was much smoother and calmer. The coach has known his wife Laura Gisi since school. The family has two children - sons Pierre-Filippo and Eduardo. The first became his father’s faithful assistant - being a lawyer, he gives advice on how to profitably conclude the next deal. The second is the main consultant for managing family finances.

In 2008, the family idyll was violated by the claims of the Italian prosecutor's office, which accused Capello of non-payment of taxes on amounts received under sponsorship contracts. The wife and children of the famous coach were also among the suspects then. Later, the charges were dropped, and the investigation was presented as an ordinary audit of the purity of income and expenses of wealthy Italian citizens.

Fabio Capello collects paintings. The approximate cost of the masterpieces in the football coach’s collection is € 30 million. When the coach said goodbye to the Russian national team, he received an artistic canvas from the hands of the coach as a souvenir. By the way, the Italian prefers contemporary artists. By Capello’s own admission, he does not have any works.

Fabio's other hobbies include scuba diving, hunting and golf, thanks to which the former football player maintains a stable weight of 75 kg (Capello's height is 178 cm).

And also travel. The Capello family traveled halfway around the world, visiting South America and Cambodia, China and Israel, Greece and Egypt. In addition to collecting art objects, the coach simply studies the history of the country he is visiting.

Fabio does not personally maintain accounts on social networks, however, during the period of leadership of the Russian national team, a Twitter page appeared, supposedly the posts were written by an assistant. Now there are many accounts on Facebook and Instagram opened by fans of the Italian specialist on his behalf, and the coach’s photos are mostly published by players of the clubs with whom he worked.

    Fabio Capello now

After leaving Russia, Fabio Capello enjoyed life without football for 2 years. In the summer of 2017, the Italian went to China, where he replaced his Korean predecessor at the helm of the Jiangsu Suning team. An eastern country, not with such deep football traditions as Capello’s previous places of work, offered him a contract for 1.5 years with a payment of € 15 million.

Fabio Capello - coach of Jiangsu Suning

The owner of the club, the Suning Corporation, which also owns Inter Milan, hoped, with the help of such an experienced coach, to pull Jiangsu out of penultimate place in the standings. Fabio brought with him former Juventus and AC Milan defender Gianluca Zambrotta and former Lazio and AC Milan player Christian Brocchi.

However, in 10 months, the Italian coaching staff failed to create a miracle in the Celestial Empire. Relations with the owners became tense. According to local press reports, Capello, despite the team's low results in the Chinese League Championship, demanded a change in the transfer policy. At the same time, the squad has already been strengthened by the Brazilian Ramirez, whose purchase cost Suning €25 million, and Alex Teixeira, who cost twice as much.

In April 2018, the famous coach ended his career. Fabio Capello refused to lead the Italian national team. According to the mentor, his interest is now directed towards television and commentary activities.
