Therefore, to say that the jump rope is a purely female sports equipment is not entirely true. If you decide to give your child jump ropes, you should know a few important points.

What is a skipping rope

A jump rope is a rope of a certain length with or without handles. In gymnastics, they simply use a rope with knots at the ends, and in sports stores they often sell skipping ropes equipped with handles. Some manufacturers embed mechanical or electronic counters in the rope handles.

The jump rope can be:

  • rope,
  • leather
  • nylon.

Which one you prefer is a matter of personal taste and convenience. However, it is important for the child not to spoil the first impression of such a sports simulator.

When choosing a jump rope for a child, one should be guided not by the color, shape of the handles or drawings of cartoon characters, but by convenience and size.

It is not necessary for the first acquaintance of a child with a rope to choose a projectile with handles in the form of puppet heads or palms. Beautiful in design, these jump ropes may not be entirely comfortable for children's hands. And the last point - when jumping, the rope should scroll in the handles, and not twist and get confused.

How to adjust the length of the rope

Often jump ropes are sold in a certain length. For adults - these are 3-meter ropes, for children - a little less. Excess rope (nylon) will have to be cut off. Do not be stingy and try to tie the rope in knots or hide the excess. At

evil and deformed handles - not the best option children's sports equipment. Just as the baby grows, you will pick up other jump ropes of the desired length.

Ask the child to take the handles of the rope in his hands and step on the rope with both legs. The baby should keep the arms at chest level. The rope will stretch, cut off all excess.

How to learn to jump rope

It is very important to teach your child to jump rope. Don't think it's that easy. It’s easy for an adult who grew up on Agnia Barto’s books to jump “.. with a turn, and with a jump, and with a run, and in place, and with two legs together ...”, and it’s difficult for a kid to figure out “how”, “where” and “why” she clings."

The best teacher in jump ropes is his own example. Stand next to your child and show them how to hold their hands and how to jump over the rope. Do not rush, and do not be upset if the baby does not immediately figure it out. The ability to jump will come with experience. Believe me, on the fifth, tenth or fiftieth attempt, the rope will slip under your feet and the kid will rejoice as if he had conquered Everest.

Jump ropes for the whole family

And when the child learns to jump, you can diversify the exercises and show how to jump with the rope crossing, on one leg, double jump, back and forth, etc. But the most correct thing is to the music and the whole family. After all, jumping rope burns twice as many calories as running.

10-20 minutes for training is enough. I started with 50 jumps in 2 sets. I am gradually adding. In two weeks I reached 150 times. As a child, it was easier and more fun, but now training is a pleasure. I combine jumping rope with exercises on the ministepper and exercises for the press.

After pulling the cord to the required length, you should clamp it. As a rule, a length regulator is provided for high-speed ropes that also have a hinged device on the handle to speed up the rotation of the cord. Now we will describe the choice of a rope according to its functional purpose.

  • For regular workouts perfect fit the most common inexpensive jump rope a.
  • For more intense workouts need to purchase speed rope, characterized in that it has a hinged mount on the handle, which allows you to increase the number of rotations. The purchase of such a projectile is attractive from a financial point of view, since it can be used as a beginner at the beginning of his sports way and those wishing to further raise the level sports loads. How to choose a jump rope according to the material of the cord?

For the effectiveness of training, it is also important to know how to choose the right rope based on the material of the cord and handles.

The cord can be:

  • Nylon- We recommend it for beginners and children. He is very soft, his blows to the body are not painful. But a nylon cord will not provide intense training, jumping with it will be slow.
  • Rope- also light and non-traumatic, not durable and will not be able to provide high speed.
  • rubber or plastic Both of these options are suitable for beginners. They are elastic, durable, do not get tangled. The plastic cord is more rigid, it cuts the air better than the rubber one, which contributes to a more intense pace of training. Rubber cords are not flexible enough and can be difficult to straighten after being rolled up for a long time.
  • steel, with or without length adjustment. Used for speed ropes. The cable is finished with a PVC or silicone braid on top, which protects it from moisture and other influences, making it possible classes on the street. Not suitable for difficult jumps with twisting of the line - it can break. Traumatic.
  • Leather. Differs in durability, does not tangle, rotates - great option for professionals. Among the shortcomings - it cannot have length adjustment and is expensive.
  • beaded, consisting of plastic multi-colored beads. Such ropes are bought for children, so that playing sports arouses their interest and brings joy. This jump rope is quite light and does not get tangled.

Features: too light, like heavy ropes - not for speed jumps! This applies to nylon, leather jump ropes and with a rope cord - they are very light, but rubber ones will be too heavy. The fastest - jump ropes with a metal cable

How to choose the right rope for the material of the handles?

Handles - it would seem that such a small detail of the rope, but it is quite important what they are made of.

  • Neoprene- a recognized leader in all respects. It perfectly removes moisture, as a result of which the handle remains dry and the rope does not slip out of your hands during even very long workouts;
  • Wood- also a good material, non-slip, but not as practical as neoprene;
  • Plastic- light, pleasant and good material, but loses in comparison with neoprene because the accumulated moisture from sweaty palms makes such handles slippery;
  • Metal- you can call it a male athletic option, since it provides for a weighting of the structure, which gives an additional load on the shoulders and arms;
  • Rubber- durable, inexpensive, wear-resistant, but heavy material. For the beginning of a sports path, when short workouts are planned, the choice of such handles is quite reasonable, but for long workouts it is not worth considering.

Step 1 Put on your backpack. Loosen all shoulder straps and lift the backpack by the top handle to the height of your knee, put it on your thigh and put your hands through the shoulder straps in turn.

Step 2: Tighten the hip belt. Always tighten the hip belt first and only then the shoulder straps; the hip belt must be fixed at the level of the pelvic bones.

Step 3. Shoulder straps. After adjusting the desired length of the back, alternately tighten the shoulder straps by pulling the free end down and slightly back. Make sure that the belt sits loosely enough, not squeezing the shoulders.

Step 4. Load control belts. Located above the shoulder straps. Adjust the fit of the upper part of the backpack to the back. Pull the straps forward. They should be located at the level of the collarbone and create an angle of 20-30 degrees with the back of the backpack. Lock the load control straps.

Step 5. Chest strap. Gives more freedom to your movements, stabilizes the backpack, thereby preventing rapid fatigue and slipping of the shoulder straps.

Step 6. Load control. The hip belt contributes to an even horizontal distribution of the load.

Tatonka Stepped Back System Adjustment

We can improve our backpacks endlessly, but if the backpack does not sit well on the back, then no functions will help, since it simply cannot be used to carry cargo. That is why many of the back systems of Tatonka backpacks are equipped with a special step system that allows you to adapt the backpack to the length of your back as much as possible.

When choosing a backpack, make sure you choose one that is about the length of your back. Further, with the step system, the backpack can be individually adjusted for the perfect fit and fit. Size S for short back, M for medium back, L for long back and XL for extra long back.

Step 1. Pull the bottom Velcro behind the step that perfectly matches the length of your back.

Step 3. Now fix the two side flaps on the central part, first the top one, then the bottom one.

Put on a backpack. Does everything fit? Even if you are already comfortable, you can verify this only by conducting a small practical test. Still, 20 kg on your back makes a big difference. Fill your pack and go for a walk long enough to feel the pack and its weight. Are you still happy with everything? If not, just adjust the backpack again for more comfort.

I feel bad asking this question because I've been in bike maintenance for over 20 years and this seems like a noob question. I couldn't find a Shimano manual to answer this question. I just bought a Norco Threshold CX bike with Shimano Ultegra SL-RS685 brake/shift levers. I want to adjust the length of the front derailleur cable to fine-tune the derailleur position. The cable is routed inside the frame and there is no barrel adjuster anywhere. I looked under the brake hood and didn't see anything that would affect the cable length adjustment.

Obviously I could adjust the length of the cable on the switch by loosening the bolt, moving the cable a little and tightening the bolt again. But it seems to be difficult to fine-tune this way.

In case you're wondering why I'm setting up a derailleur on a brand new bike: the front derailleur didn't move properly because the rear fender (installed by the bike shop) was in the way. Before I figured it out, I thought the cable length needed to be adjusted and I couldn't figure out how. FROM technical point I can leave the cable alone for now, but eventually it needs tweaking and I would like to know how.

Daniel R Hicks

I find it inexcusable for a derailleur bike not to have adjusters on the shift cables.

Mike Baranczak

Double check the cable regulators. Daniel is right - it's hard to believe they forgot something simple. Maybe they are hidden somewhere, maybe they don't look like cable adjusters...

I'll take another look tonight. If it's not there, I'll get one LBS installed. They said I get 1 year of free labor for anything I want so if they don't want to give me a free regulator I just pay $10-15 and they will install it for free.

I talked to the guy at the bike shop, he says Norco doesn't put any adjusters on this bike. I have one installed now.

If there is no barrel regulator, then you need an installed one. Ask LBS to do it or do it yourself:

  1. Get an integrated barrel adjuster and two 4mm tips. It's pretty cheap.
  2. Get tools to cut the cable casing.
  3. Make sure there is enough shift cable left to accommodate the 3-4 inches added by the adjuster. If it is too short, get a new cable.
  4. Disconnect the cable from the switch.
  5. Find a straight section on the cable housing that doesn't lose anything and mark it.
  6. If your frame comes through the cable bare and does not go through the inner jacket, attach a long rope to the end of the cable before pulling it out. This will help route the cable back.
  7. Cut the body in the marked place, install the ferrules at both ends. If the tips have long tongues, they must also be cut down.
  8. Set the adjuster to the shortest position, set it in the cut.
  9. Route the cable back using string. You can now adjust the front derailleur cable tension.

The result should look something like this. Note that 5800/6800 switches have a more complicated installation procedure than older models, be sure to download the dealer manual and read the instructions carefully.

Thanks for the reply and great picture. LBS will install it for me as they already have a list of issues that need to be fixed. I will print this manual and keep it in case I need to make adjustments in the future.

You may still want the built-in regulator, but if you don't have one, here's the procedure I use (I don't use one):

  1. Disconnect cable from front derailleur
  2. Switch to small ring, big cog
  3. Adjust the lower limit screw so that the distance between the chain and the inner cage is 1mm.
  4. Turn the bottom stop screw clockwise 1/2 turn (pushes the cage further away from the chain)
  5. Connect cable and tighten with pliers
  6. Turn the lower limit screw counterclockwise 1/2 turn (undo the adjustment from step 4).

Steps 4 and 6 allow you to add some cable tension.
