Overview of competitions in robotics in Russia. Robot Olympics. Biggest international competition Robotics competition in June

Robotics is becoming increasingly bold in our lives. What another 15 - 20 years seemed like science fiction, today has already turned into everyday routine. Robots have long been an integral part of our lives. They help us in the household, sew, wash, clean, wash the dishes. Functions and possibilities are increasing more and more. Contributes to such accelerated development and support at the level of governments of states. Robotics is encouraged and supported by the state. Various competitions, olympiads, robot competitions are held.

In 2016, Russia hosted such robotics competitions as Robo Fest, RoboCup - the football championship among robots, World Robotics Olympiad - the world robotics Olympiad, competitions under the Junior Skills program. These are the most famous competitions of this type for children. The competition schedule for 2017 has been drawn up.
The most significant events in Russia

Among the annual All-Russian competitions on robotics the most significant place is occupied by the festival"Robo Fest" which takes place in the capital. This year it has already passed on March 15-17. This largest world festival brings together contestants from six to 30 years old every year. Here they show their original materialized ideas. Oleg Deripasko became the "godfather" of the festival. The idea of creating the festival came after his visit to the World North American Robot Competition. Until 2007, nothing of the kind had been carried out in Russia, although it is well known that Russia has the best scientific minds and personnel educated in the USSR.

Now the All-Russian festival "Robo Fest" has become one of the ways to support creative youth, to improve. One of the goals of its annual holding is to revive the prestige of the engineering profession. This festival is not just a competition in robotics, but also additional training for young people, presentations, exchange of experience, master classes, interactive lectures for participants.

RoboCup is a championship for robots playing football. In May 2016, Tomsk hosted the International Robot Football Championship. The ultimate goal of this project is the use of autonomous robots - football players in scientific - research work for the creation of artificial intelligence. In addition to robots - football players, robots - dancers were created within the framework of the program. This event is held as part of the All-Russian Festival of Robotics "RoboScience Tomsk - 2016".

World Robotics Olympiad is the world's largest non-commercial robotics Olympiad for children aged 13-16. The main direction is space technologies, robots and space. The rules change every season. All details can be found on the official website of the Olympiad.

Junior Skills competitions. The main goal of the program is early career guidance for schoolchildren and obtaining the knowledge necessary for their future profession. In fact, this is one of the new forms of education, where all learning forms are used for learning: play, competition, work, motivating pedagogy. Everything that stimulates the personal growth of the student. The program also affects "difficult children" who did not find themselves in regular school education, who got a chance to find a profession in new IT technologies. This is a very serious school that develops a variety of useful skills and requires the student to have serious theoretical and practical training. Suffice it to say that after the competition, each participant must create their own startup and protect it.

Robotics Competition 2016 - 2017

The most significant events are mentioned above. This year is more eventful. From the end of March to June, three significant robotics events are held in St. Petersburg, including the All-Russian summer robotics camp from June 23 to August 5, 2017 at the Pioner recreation center.

On July 3 - 7, annual field tests of unmanned systems "RoboCross-2017" will take place. On October 11-12, 2017, the All-Russian Competition of Intelligent Robots will be held in Sochi.
Age of participants of all these events is from 6 to 16 years. Competitions in which children take part can be called differently: festivals, olympiads, camps, championships. But the goals that they pursue are, in general, similar - this is the identification and support of talented promising young people.

As a rule, the types of competitions in robotics include such common competitions as: kegelring, trajectory, sumo, labyrinth, biathlon, racing, road, rope. At the international Olympiads, in addition to the traditional above-mentioned competitions, there are also space topics: a space station, a satellite, a rocket.

In Russia, robot competitions in robotics have been held since October 2015. Then the first All-Russian Spartakiad of Robots was held in Moscow. It included such disciplines as robo - sumo in the category from 100 to 3000 gr, robo - lines, robo - sorting. Competitions were open and without age restrictions.
Competitive robotics

Robotics training is a priority modern education. Independent creation of robots and programs allows students to practically learn the basics of design and programming. This concept implies the occupation of robotics at a serious level. This training system involves a large amount of theory, tasks of increased complexity. Students of competitive robotics groups are given preference in the selection for republican and international olympiads and competition.

Judging by the intensity of various robotics competitions, we can confidently say that since 2007, when the first All-Russian Robotics Festival "Robo Fest" was born, Russian robotics has been developing quite successfully, and schoolchildren studying in the competitive robotics system have great prospects ahead.

On April 22, 2016, on the basis of the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Physics of VGSPU, the III annual regional competition in robotics "ROBOMIR-2016" was held.

Competitions were held in three categories and seven nominations:

Labyrinth. Round trip (younger age group)

Open Moscow Robotic Tournament

On April 20-21, 2013, the Moscow City Palace of Children's (Youth) Creativity hosted the Open Moscow Robotic Tournament according to the RobotChallenge regulations.

Classes in robotics and technical creativity develop, give new knowledge and help in learning. Another reason why children are not torn away from robots is the opportunity to compete. We have prepared an overview of the largest international robot competitions for children.

WRO

First

FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition in Science and Technology) was founded in 1989 by entrepreneur and inventor Dean Kamen to spark young people's interest in science and technology. Based in Manchester, New Hampshire, USA. FIRST organizes competitions in four directions in which children from 6 to 18 years old can take part: FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC), FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC), FIRST LEGO® League and Junior FIRST LEGO League (Jr. FLL®). In Russia, competitions are supported and developed by the Free Business Foundation as part of the Robotics program.

An important part of the FIRST competition is the presentation of your own project. The project is aimed at both the development of technical creativity and the ability to design activities. Socially important topics of the competition from childhood instill children's attention to the humanitarian problems of the modern world. “FIRST is an example of a design-and-fun approach to robot competition. This is good approach. In competitions with Asian approaches, such as WRO, on the contrary, the competitive component stands out, ”comments Maxim Vasiliev, President of the Russian Association for Educational Robotics (RAOR).

IYRC

IYRC competitions (International Youth Robotic Competition, English) are international youth robotics competitions for children from 6 to 17 years old, originally from South Korea. IYRC takes place annually in August.

Participants compete in the classic categories: sumo, robotic football and robotic volleyball, passing polygons according to certain rules, and others. Participants can also compete for a prize in the “Creative Project” category and present to the jury not only a robot, but also its program of work.

RoboCup

RoboCup is robot football. The international annual tournament was first held in 1997, but the idea belongs to a Canadian scientist, Professor Alan McWorth, who developed the concept of robo-football back in 1993.

The main idea of the competition is utopian - the organizers hope that soon best football players with artificial intelligence will be able to play with real human football players.

RoboCup includes competitions in several categories depending on the size and shape of the robots: small robots (no more than 18 cm), medium robots, standard platforms (all teams create robots on the same platform, for example NAO), humanoid robots (arbitrary platforms and design).
