All-Russian Olympiad schoolchildren is one of the most massive and long-awaited events in the educational sphere of Russia. It is anticipated by gifted children studying in almost all classes. Perhaps, only the annual State Attestation of Pupils can be called a larger-scale project, because thousands of schoolchildren take part in the Olympiad, demonstrating knowledge gained in 24 academic disciplines.

Becoming a participant in this event is a mission full of honor and responsibility. Well, a victory in the Olympiad in one of the subjects is a chance to demonstrate the knowledge and skills accumulated over the years, the opportunity to defend your school, and also get excellent prizes. For students in grades 9-11, victory in the highest round of the competition is accompanied by another important and even fateful opportunity - they get a chance to become applicants for the best universities, institutes and academies of the Russian Federation on preferential terms.

Of course, becoming a winner is not so easy - for this it is not enough just to be a talented student. Olympians have to work educational materials and master topics that go far beyond what is required to get an excellent mark. Let's find out how, when and in what mode the All-Russian Olympiad will be held in the 2018/2019 academic year!

The first round of the 2019 Olympiad starts in schools in September 2018!

From the history of the Olympics

Of course, we can talk about the development of the modern All-Russian Olympiad from the moment the history of Russia as a federal state began. However, the foundations of this event in the field of education were laid in the distant 19th century, when in 1886 members of the Astronomical Community of the Russian Empire initiated the holding of Olympiad competitions to solve mathematical problems for "learning youth".

When the Russian Empire was replaced on the world map Soviet Union, the school Olympiad movement not only did not stop, but also noticeably intensified - since the 30s of the last century, Olympiads began to be held for high school students in such disciplines as mathematics, physics and chemistry. Gradually, the Olympiads began to be called All-Union, but in the 60s, the Minister of Education M.A. Prokofiev signed a decree approving a whole list of Olympiad competitions between schoolchildren.

Over time, the number of subjects on which you could demonstrate your knowledge only increased. For example, computer science was included in the list back in 1989, since 1992 geography was included in the list, two years later - astronomy and ecology, three years later - literature, and in 2000 the first foreign language was included in the list - it became German. The last expansion in the number of subjects occurred in 2016, when schoolchildren began to compete in three more foreign languages (Spanish, Chinese and Italian).

Interesting fact: Today, specialists from the Department of General Education, which is part of the country's Ministry of Education, supervise Olympiads in 24 subjects.

Disciplines of the All-Russian Olympiad

In the 2018/2019 academic year, Russian students will have a chance to compete for victory in the Olympiad rounds, which are held in the following school disciplines:

  • the exact sciences are represented by such a discipline as computer science and computer technology, as well as one of the "oldest" subjects - mathematics;
  • disciplines of a natural nature are represented by an extremely wide list - you can take part in a geographical, biological, astronomical, physical, chemical and environmental competition;
  • the philological direction includes olympiad competitions for knowledge of German, English, Chinese, Spanish, French and Italian languages, as well as Russian language and literature;
  • students who are inclined towards the humanities can try their hand at the historical Olympiad, social science, competition in the field of law or economics;
  • in addition, the Olympiad subjects include art, technology and the basics of life safety, as well as a competition for real athletes - physical education.

Organization of the federal Olympiad

Victory in the All-Russian Olympiad involves the passage of a long and difficult path, because students will have to demonstrate their best strengths during 4 stages:

  1. school stage. This tour can be safely called the simplest, since it is organized by local governments responsible for education in the city's districts. In the first stage, guys representing classes from 5th to 11th compete. Pupils of the 4th grade take part in this tour only in two subjects - Russian language and mathematics. The desire of students should not be limited in any way - anyone can become a member of the school tour. However, you need to be prepared for the fact that the assignments will go beyond the regular program, and even represent topics studied in high school. The winners go on to the next round.
  2. municipal stage. In this round, the participants are children representing grades 7 to 11. This stage is organized by the city department of education, whose specialists set the quotas of participants for each academic discipline, draw up lists of students (taking into account the number of points that each class received in the previous stage of the Olympiad). Can participate as winners school tours this year, and the guys who became winners of the Olympiad last year.
  3. Regional stage. This level of the Olympiad is held for students who study according to programs from 9th to 11th grades. Participation is determined by the number of points scored in the municipal subject tour. As in the previous stage, they can compete as winners municipal stage 2018/2019 school year, as well as the past. In addition, the number of participants can be expanded to include students who study abroad in educational institutions subordinate to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  4. The final stage carried out throughout the state. The composition of the final round of the Olympiad is formed directly by specialists representing the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation. Students who have become winners of the current and previous academic period can also compete in this round. If a situation arises that in some region of the country, none of the participants in the subject Olympiad managed to score the proper number of points, then the Ministry of Education may agree to delegate one student who scored at least 50% of all points for the tasks of the regional round. An exception is also possible for students who are actually studying in the 5th-8th grade of the school, but wish to speak in the subject for the 9th grade. The winners and prize-winners of this prestigious tour are awarded diplomas that certify the right to enter any university in the country. It is necessary to meet only two conditions - to receive a school certificate and enter the specialty in the profile of the subject in which the victory was recorded. In addition, such gifted children receive a special award on behalf of the Russian government.

Quotas for participants

It is worth distinguishing between the concepts of winners and prize-winners of tours related to the regional and federal stages. The winner is automatically the student who scored the maximum points in his subject. The prize-winner must receive points established as passing points by the Ministry of Education. In addition, the number of winners has a well-defined quota:

  • on a regional tour, their number cannot exceed 25%;
  • in the final round they can be no more than 45%. At the same time, at this stage, the number of winners is also limited - no more than 8% of the entire composition of the tour participants.

When are the stages of the Olympiad held?

The Olympiad covers almost the entire academic year: it starts in September and ends in May. If we talk about individual stages, then in 2018/2019, as before, the following periods will be assigned to them:

  • the school tour runs from mid-September to the end of October.
  • the municipal tour is organized from the 20th of October to mid-December;
  • the regional stage runs from mid-January to the end of February;
  • final stage of school Olympiad will be held from mid-March to mid-May.

Preparation for standard tasks for the Olympiad

To prepare for the Olympics, download and work through typical tasks

Olympiad tasks for each subject are most often divided into two blocks - theory and practice. Of course, each of the disciplines implies its own specifics and features of tasks, especially when it comes to the final round, so you can’t do without thorough preparation. Speaking objectively about some Olympiad disciplines, we can cite the following facts:

  • The Olympiad in the Arts will reveal the creative abilities of the student, so it’s worth “filling your hand” and perfecting the technique of drawing or sculpture;
  • mathematicians are often offered puzzles with a trick that need to be solved in non-standard ways;
  • non-competitive tasks are often prepared for participants in Russian language tours - for example, in the form of a reasoned dispute or even writing an anthem for the Olympiad;
  • schoolchildren competing in the Olympiad in Informatics should solve only practical tasks. Interestingly, during final rounds often conduct online broadcasts and teleconferences with famous Russian scientists;
  • at the Chemistry Olympiad, schoolchildren will have to show not only theoretical knowledge, but also the ability to conduct experiments in all sections of this science;
  • for ecology, starting with a regional tour, it is planned to present and defend an interesting and relevant environmental project;
  • Geographical Olympiad will require excellent ability to navigate maps. Interestingly, as part of this competition, a multimedia quiz with prizes is held out of competition. The best of the best can be assigned additional financial incentives - nominal scholarship payments from the company "Vokrug sveta", which are accrued throughout all the years of university study;
  • in the historical competition, you will not only have to show that you are excellent at solving tests, but also write an essay and a historical project.

However, you can practice in advance on examples of Olympiad complexes over the past years. For example, to help students, you can recommend the Internet resource rosolymp.ru - this is the direct official website of the All-Russian Olympiad. Here you can find tasks for the federal stages over the past few years (and even answers to them).

The portal at vos.olimpiada.ru will also be useful - it contains tasks for several stages, including municipal and regional ones, and this resource is updated with enviable regularity. Here you can follow the rounds of the next academic year and find assignments for all classes. Also, all the necessary information is provided by the page of the official website of the Ministry responsible for education and science. Russian Federation.

Support and criticism of the All-Russian Olympiads

Like any phenomenon, the Olympics have two sides. Of course, these events have huge positive consequences, because they help to popularize science, to identify among the students the most talented children who, with proper support, will be able to achieve world recognition. Thus, the example of the mathematician G.Ya. Perelman, who won the Olympiad back in Soviet times, and then became the winner of the European Mathematical Society Prize, as well as the International Fields Prize (for being able to solve the Poincret conjecture).

For the same achievement, Perelman received a $ 1 million award from the leadership of the Clay Mathematical Institute! You can also recall S.K. Smirnov, who had previously demonstrated his mathematical talent at the Olympiad. At one time he was awarded six of the most prestigious awards, including the Fields Medal, and today he is a visiting professor at the University of Geneva and a member of the council at the country's Ministry of Education and Science.

The places taken at the Olympics will open the way for you to the best universities in the country!

Such events have a positive effect on the prestige of the state, because the best of the best students then represent Russia at international level olympiads. It is also very pleasant for schoolchildren to receive prizes - the winners are entitled to a government payment in the amount of 60,000 rubles, and the prize-winners - 30,000 rubles. Although for this, of course, you need to study very hard.

We can talk about the All-Russian Olympiad for schoolchildren in connection with the formation of Russiaas an independent states. Also in In the 19th century, the Astronomical Society of the Russian Empire held the "Olympiads for student youth". Correspondence competitions for solving mathematical problems have been held since 1886, and during the Soviet era, city Olympiads for schoolchildren in mathematics, physics, and chemistry have been held since the 1930s. The history of the Olympiad movement in Russia allows us to see which new subjects were actively entering life and which were losing their positions, it reflects the evolution of approaches to determining the content of education in secondary school.

  • This state project is supervised by the Department public policy in the field of general education of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.
  • The organizers of the Olympiad are educational organizations (school stage), local authorities of municipal and city districts in the field of education (municipal stage), state authorities of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation in the field of education (regional stage) and the Ministry of Education and Science (final stage).
  • Organizational and methodological support of the All-Russian Olympiad for schoolchildren is carried out by the Central organizing committee Olympiad, guided in its activities by the "Regulations on the All-Russian Olympiad for schoolchildren".

According to the Regulations on the All-Russian Olympiad for schoolchildren, the following stages of the Olympiad are distinguished: school, municipal, regional, final.

Winners and prize-winners of the final stage of the Olympiad without entrance examinations are admitted to state and municipal educational institutions of secondary and higher professional education in accordance with the profile of the Olympiad.

The system of olympiads serves to popularize sciences and identify talented schoolchildren. Many participants and winners of the Olympiads later became recognized and scientists in their fields.

Participation and victory of schoolchildren in international olympiads raises the prestige of the country and proves the superiority of the education and training system.

In order to win the Olympiad, you have to study hard (study theory and train in solving problems). This stimulates interest in the subject among the participants. Being competitive in nature, the Olympiad teaches students to be competitive, to the fact that good performance requires practice.
