Swimming competitions at the FINA World Championships started in Budapest on Sunday.

This is the most medal type of the complex world championship in Budapest. It will feature 42 sets of awards.

The swims will take place at the main venue of the tournament, the Duna Arena, where only divers competed before the start of the swimming tournament.

"Everything that we planned, we took at the World Aquatics Championships on this moment. Basically, the results are good. In synchronized swimming, everything possible has been won. Gold medal in diving. Lots of silver and bronze medals. On the open water too good result. All types are competitive. Now it's up to our swimmers, we will wait for medals from them. Good luck!" Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Vitaly Mutko admonished the Russian national swimming team.

On the Olympic Games ah in Rio de Janeiro Russian team won four medals. Yulia Efimova won two silver medals in breaststroke, Anton Chupkov and Evgeny Rylov won bronze medals. All three will start at the World Championships in Budapest.

The qualification for participation in the world championship was the April championship of Russia, where the swimmers had to fulfill the conditions of selection. The only one who was included by the decision coaching staff in the national team after the fact, was, who is considered as a candidate for the crawl relay.

The current World Cup winner Vladimir Morozov came to this World Cup as a favorite. After the Games, he successfully competed in short water, including the World Championships in Windsor, Canada. Morozov himself admitted that he now has a very clear priority at individual distances. “This is a “fifty kopeck” crawl, the work is built primarily for him,” he said.

After the championship of Russia, the team played at the stages international competitions"Mare Nostrum", some of the leaders swam in the final of the Russian Cup in Moscow, including team captain Anastasia Fesikova, who returns to Budapest after seven years.

“To the city where I didn’t compete at the European Championships, then I had a back injury,” she recalled. “For me, this is the first competitive Budapest. This time, I hope I will swim in it. So much has happened during this time. everything was, it is felt. Our team is now young, there are fewer and fewer older athletes, more and more young people. But it's good, it's great, I like being part of this team."

“In general, we calmly and restrainedly evaluate our results shown before the World Cup, and the American selection added optimism to us. The results of the Americans in some types of programs are tough for us,” admitted Main coach Russian team

Two European Championships, which were held in the same city with a difference of four years, is a lot. It is, whether we like it or not, recognition of the quality of the organization. This is probably why Budapest won the right to host the World Cup. Although the word "Budapest" does not recall the uninterrupted work of services, but wild showers and thunderstorms in 2006, due to which synchronized swimmers' competitions were suspended. At the most crucial moment of the competition, someone noticed that the electric cables, thrown, as usual, on the side and covered with plastic "bridges" so that they would not be stepped on, were submerged under water at a wild speed. So they kicked everyone out of the pool - in order to avoid, so to speak.

The journalists were also happy then, because after the first hour of bad weather, the tarpaulin roof of the press center began to leak, the connection was lost, the lights went out. In 2010, the European Championship also began with cataclysms: during one of the training sessions, lightning struck the pool. After that, training also had to be stopped.

All this did not change the main thing: she took all the gold medals at those championships Russia. Two times four. And this is the main difference between European championships and world championships: in the current format, nine sets of awards will be played: two in solo, four in duets (regular and mixed), two in groups and one in combination. The task of the Russian team, respectively, is simple: to win nine out of nine.

NEW DISCIPLINE - HIGHLIGHTS

It will be difficult: after the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Russia changed its soloist, duet and most of the group. That is, those who have not yet done this at the World Championships will have to implement the usual task. On Wednesday, everyone, except for the Chinese, gathered for training in Budapest. Information regarding the athletes of this country was extremely scarce and boiled down to the fact that representatives of the Celestial Empire would perform in Budapest club team, since the main one, that is, the national one, is being prepared in conditions of strict secrecy for Asian Games next year and is going to shake the world with elements never seen before.

As for the elements, on Wednesday the FINA Congress decided to introduce another type of synchronized swimming program into the program of the world championships - a tournament in elements. Or officially - highlights. That is, all the best and most difficult that is in synchronized swimming. Synchronized swimmers will compete in this event in two years, but already now we can assume who will be the favorites in this event: it’s all the same Russia, Spain and China- the acrobatic training of these countries is initially higher than that of the rest.

AFRICAN SANDS MARATHON

As for the current battlefield, it is quite comfortable at first glance: a modern collapsible pool. But there are problems. This is overly chlorinated and overly warm water. Considering that synchronized swimmers perform underwater without glasses, it is easy to understand what kind of load on the eyes awaits the athletes. Yes, and in the heart too: working at a frantic pace in warm water is like running a marathon on the African sands.

By the beginning of the competition, the organizers promised to put both in order in order to achieve ideal conditions for performances, but how much they will be able to do everything is an open question. Although for the Hungarians, I believe, the organization of the tournament is a matter of honor: the country is already claiming to host another world championship.

As for the forecasts, they are quite ordinary: if we assume that the information about the Chinese team is true, and the Chinese will be unable to fight for prizes (which, I confess, I personally do not believe it), the list of contenders for medals in most types of programs will look like this : Russia, Spain, Ukraine and Japan- in different variations. At the 2015 World Championships in Kazan, let me remind you, our country lost gold medal only in one form short program mixed duets (the winners there were the Americans Christina Lam-Underwood and Bill May).

Well, the first debut Svetlana Kolesnichenko solo and duet with Alexandra Patskevich will take place on Friday.

The 2017 FINA World Championships have ended in Budapest. The Russian team repeated its own record for the number of medals won. Like ten years ago in Melbourne, the Russians took away 25 awards (11 gold) from the championship, finishing third in the team event. China and the US are ahead, respectively. In 2007, however, only the United States was ahead. about the success of Russian athletes.

Predictable triumph

The hegemony of Russian representatives of synchronized swimming at the Olympics and World Championships has long become commonplace. For a decade and a half, synchronized swimmers have been making a huge contribution to the Russian team in the medal standings of competitions. Budapest is predictably no exception. Representatives of this type of program won seven gold and one silver medal. This is almost a third of the total Russian awards at the tournament!

The Russians were represented in eight out of nine disciplines. It was decided to refuse participation in the combination. As the president of the Russian Synchronized Swimming Federation said, they took such a step to give up one gold, giving the other team a chance to rejoice at the victory and increase interest in synchronized swimming in the world.

But the eighth gold was included in the plans, but the mixed duet of Michaela Calanci and let Manila Flamini and Giorgio Minisini from Italy go ahead in technical program. The Russians lost 0.034 points to their rivals, however, according to many experts, our athletes were simply sued. In favor of this version is the presence of Father Minisini in the composition of the arbitrators.

Jumping to victory

Gold, two silvers and two bronzes were brought to the Russian national team by athletes competing in springboard diving. For representatives of this type of program, the performance at the 2017 World Cup was the most successful since the 2003 tournament in Barcelona, when the Russians won two medals of each value.

Silver medalists of the 2012 Olympics in London in synchronized diving from a three-meter springboard and froze on the second line in this discipline and in the championships of the planet. Since 2011, three world championships have invariably ended for the duet in silver, but in Budapest, the ambitious Russians still managed to break this tradition, leaving behind the main contenders for gold - the Chinese Xie Siyi and Cao Yuan. Zakharov also won bronze on the three-meter springboard.

The Chinese took revenge in synchronized jumps from a ten-meter tower - and became second, letting athletes from the Celestial Empire Chen Aisen and. Keep up with Russian men and their teammates of the weaker sex. and won bronze in the 3m springboard synchronized diving. Bazhina also won silver on the meter springboard.

Triple triumph

The World Championships in Budapest were also super-successful for Russian swimmers, who won three golds, three silvers and four bronzes. The Russians performed better at the world championships only in 1994, when there were 11 medals in the piggy bank (5, 4, 2). A complete collection of awards was collected by the leader of the Russian national team, which is under constant pressure from competitors. The 25-year-old athlete won gold in the 200m breaststroke, silver in the 50m breaststroke, second place in the 4x100 medley relay and bronze in the 100m breaststroke.

Men also achieved historic achievements at the World Championships. 20-year-olds and won gold medals in the 200-meter backstroke and breaststroke, respectively. These are the first individual victories of swimmers since the 2003 world championship in Barcelona. He swam great in the hundred-meter breaststroke, although he took only bronze. He won another award, becoming third in the 200-meter freestyle.

Replenished the piggy bank of the Russian team and men's relay teams. They won silver in the 4x200m freestyle and bronze in the 4x100m medley relay. Another bronze award on the account, who competed in open water swimming at a distance of 25 kilometers.

Dali ball

Special attention in Budapest was riveted to playful mind sports - water polo. The Russian women's team came to the tournament in the status of the bronze medalist of the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and in Hungary managed to confirm the status of one of the leading teams in the world. The competition for the wards was not easy: in the group, the team took third place, after which they barely defeated the Netherlands national team in the 1/8 finals (11:10). Further, in a tense duel, the Italians were beaten (9:8), but in the semifinals, the future world champions of the Americans turned out to be stronger (14:9). In the meeting for third place, the Russian team defeated Canada (11:9).

For the Russian men's water polo team, getting to the World Cup is a great success. Since 2007, the Russians have not been able to qualify for three world championships, and at the 2015 tournament in Kazan, where the team was selected as the host of the competition, it became the 14th. In Budapest, men managed not only to overcome group stage, but also beat the Spaniards in the 1/8 finals (11:10). After that, there was a sensitive defeat (5:14) from the hosts of the tournament in the quarterfinals and the same outcome in the meetings of the repechage stage with Montenegro (8:9) and Australia (7:10). As a result, the Russians took eighth place in the tournament, which, taking into account latest results teams can be considered a success.
