"Crosby was already phenomenal at the age of eight"

- I left the USSR to play in Canada, since then I have been living there, but I consider Chelyabinsk my home, - Alexander Tyzhnykh begins. – Here are my relatives and friends, unfortunately, some of them have already passed away. Here I can meet the Makarov brothers at the match with CSKA, with whom I played together. I remember Sergei from the Voskhod school. Even then, he stood out with a perfect hockey IQ, good skating and hands. He was able to beat the whole team alone.

As an agent, have you come across such diamonds as Makarov?
When I'm done sports career, then opened several hockey schools. Once, an 8-year-old boy named Sidney Crosby came to one of them. Even then he was extraordinary and was four years ahead of his peers in development. Sidney was in our school for five years, and I always knew that one day the guy would grow into a big star. And so it happened.

What is the difference between hockey education overseas and Russian?
A clear vertical has been built in Russia. Take Chelyabinsk: there is Traktor, farm, youth team, schools different ages. And it's all one structure. In Canada, children's teams have nothing to do with the NHL clubs. Sections are mostly paid. If you take the entire hockey education of a child from 7 to 15 years old, then it will cost parents at least 30 thousand dollars. And that's not counting summer camps, workshops and hotel costs. The minimum return begins only at the age of 15-16, when a guy through a junior draft gets into a team with a professional coach. The club provides him with equipment and a salary of $50 a week. But not everyone gets picked in the draft.

“The story with Voinov cost me sleepless nights”

You are working with Traktor's goalie Vasily Demchenko, who is actively interested in Arizona.
The Coyotes offer a two-year contract, there is interest from Russian clubs, but I think that Vasily will connect his near future with Chelyabinsk. You see, the agent is there to give the guy the right advice. Contracts are second. And I think that you need to stay in your own club, pay tribute to him and go through some stages with him. Traktor is a great place, president Boris Dubrovsky is attentive to any issues, the club has ambitions - there is where to prove oneself.

Demchenko started the season with the first number, but then Francouz began to play more.
We must pay tribute to Pavel, who caught the chance and shows phenomenal statistics. Vasily needs to be added to stability. There are also games where one goalkeeper in the field is not a warrior. Like a recent away game with Dynamo Moscow. Three majority - three goals. It seems that the goalkeeper is charged and set up for the match, but it's just not his day. Either way, competition helps grow. It is very good that there are two strong gatekeepers in Traktor. The one who is better prepared plays.

Your client Vyacheslav Voynov has survived domestic violence charges and an American prison. Has what happened changed him in any way?
In all families, disputes and difficult moments happen. Vyacheslav and Marta came out of the situation with dignity. Gennady Timchenko, Roman Rotenberg, Vladislav Tretyak, Oleg Znarok, our embassy in the USA helped us a lot. Now Vyacheslav plays great for SKA, he has rediscovered himself in Russia. The contract with St. Petersburg is valid for another year and a half, if Voinov continues to be satisfied with everything, then he may remain in the KHL. Moreover, the disqualification in the NHL has not yet been lifted.

What did the story cost you?
Sleepless nights! But I did not fall into despair. I have known Vyacheslav since the age of 15 - even then he was a leader and a man capable of overcoming difficulties.

"An agent is not a nanny or a friend, but a business partner"

Your colleague Shumi Babaev believes that the agent helps the hockey player not become a slave. Alexey Dementiev is sure that the agent is a friend of the player, helping him to become the best. How would you define the mission of your profession?
The main goal is the development of the client! We need to help an 18-year-old boy with the training process, with a choice proper nutrition, give right advice. The agent is not a babysitter or a friend of the player, but a business partner. When my hockey player does not work out, I ask him harshly. If I find out about the violation of the sports regime, then I go into conflict. As for the “shackles”, there is no need to be afraid of long contracts for two or three seasons. This is an absolutely normal situation. Of course, it happens that the club imposes a contract according to the regulations ... We, agents, would like all hockey players to be free and able to change jobs at any time. But in Russia this will not work. A mess will start, everyone will run from their clubs.

How exactly do you help clients grow?
Every year I collect them in Ottawa and organize camping: ice, OFP, Athletics, yoga, gymnastics. I hire strong specialists, for example, the Montreal coach works with the guys in skating. Each player has his own program: someone needs to work on speed, someone on physics. During the season, I follow everyone the same and notice their shortcomings, no matter if we are talking about a promising young prospect or Andrey Vasilevsky, or Kirill Petrov.

“A hockey player should not discuss politics and criticize coaches”

Do you work only with Russian hockey players?
No, we're dealing with Canadians and Slovak Los Angeles goaltender Peter Buday. The search for talent is ongoing. I have assistants in Russia who monitor the youth and send me reports. But before signing a contract, I try to see the guy's game with my own eyes. When I was in Chelyabinsk, for example, I attended the Polar Bears match. There, many guys can grow into good hockey players.

Which of the unlit Chelyabinsk avenues can shoot in the near future?
I heard a lot about Vitaly Kravtsov. He is an interesting boy, called up to the 1999 national team. Already made his debut for Traktor. Also, Vladislav Sukhachev. He can grow into the goalkeeper of the national team.

Young players are active in social networks and sometimes this leads to disasters. The Internet showdown of the ex-player of the "black and white" Igor Velichkin with fans, for example, almost led to real bloodshed. Do you give recommendations to clients on what to post on Instagram and VK?
I can't forbid a guy to talk about his personal life, but he must be smart and remember about publicity. Spreading provocative things online is wrong. We are constantly explaining to players how media works. For NHL clubs, this is also the norm. For beginners, lectures on working with journalists are held. They are told that they need to be open, but at the same time avoid provocations. Do not discuss politics, do not criticize the club, coaches and partners, do not wash dirty linen in public.

Last youth championship world showed that Russia is growing fewer stars. Fairy link Kaprizov, the rest were workhorses.
In Bragin's team, each player has a role to play. For example, the coach did not take my client Nikita Korostelev to the championship, who scores almost two points per match in Canadian youth hockey. But you're right, Russian coaches don't have the same choice as Canadians, Americans or Swedes. This is confirmed by the latest NHL draft. Previously, they chose 20 of our guys, now 7-10. And it's not about the "Russian factor" at all. I do not want to offend anyone, but the problem is in the coaching staff. Children's mentors do not develop. They, unlike their predecessors, who spent the night on the ice, lack enthusiasm. Today it's all about pay. We need to make good bonuses for coaches whose students get into the KHL and NHL. And perhaps this will somehow affect the situation. Although there are strong schools in Russia, our hockey does not stand still.

An excerpt characterizing Tyzhnykh, Alexander Vladimirovich

Caraffa devoured me for another moment with his black eyes, and then turned on his heels and quickly left the room, as if afraid that I would suddenly stop him for some reason.
I perfectly understood why he asked the last question ... From the very moment he saw that I could suddenly take it and disappear so easily, he racked his proud head, as if to "tie" me somewhere stronger, or , for reliability, put him in some kind of stone bag, from which I certainly would not have any hope of “flying away” anywhere ... But, with my answer, I deprived him of peace, and my soul sincerely rejoiced at this small victory, since I knew for sure that from that moment on, Caraffa would lose sleep, trying to figure out where it would be more reliable to hide me.
These, of course, were just funny moments distracting from the terrible reality, but they helped me, at least with him, with Caraff, to forget for a moment and not show how painfully and deeply wounded me what was happening. I wildly wanted to find a way out of our hopeless situation, wishing this with all the strength of my tormented soul! But just my desire to defeat Karaffa was not enough. I had to understand what made him so strong, and what was this “gift” that he received in Meteora, and which I could not see in any way, since he was completely alien to us. For this, I needed a father. And he didn't respond. And I decided to try if the North would respond ...
But no matter how I tried, for some reason he also did not want to get in touch with me. And I decided to try what I had just shown Caraffe - to go with a “breath” to Meteora ... Only this time I had no idea where the desired monastery was located ... It was a risk, because, not knowing my “point of manifestation ”, I could not “collect” myself anywhere at all. And that would be death. But it was worth trying if I hoped to get at least some answer in Meteor. Therefore, trying not to think about the consequences for a long time, I went ...
Having tuned in to the North, I mentally ordered myself to appear where he could be at that moment. I never went blindly, and this, of course, did not add much confidence to my attempt ... But still there was nothing to lose, except for the victory over Karaffa. And it was worth the risk...

Russian agent Alexander "Sasha" Tyzhnykh is not a frequent visitor in Russia. The ex-goalkeeper of CSKA and the USSR national team is currently engaged in agency activities in the capital of Canada and represents the interests of over a hundred players from all over the world. It is Tyzhnykh who, in particular, conducts the cases of Nikolai Zherdev, who arranged the scandalous escape from CSKA Viktor Tikhonov in the fall of 2003.

$2 million for Malkin is normal money

- The current defection of Magnitogorsk forward Evgeny Malkin is reminiscent of the scandalous departure of forward Nikolai Zherdev to Columbus three years ago. By the way, your client ....
“The circumstances here are completely different. Still, Malkin signed a contract with Metallurg for the upcoming season just a few days before his scandalous escape. He promised to spend the upcoming season at the club and did so.

- Now no one knows where Malkin is ...
- I think that he is in Toronto with representatives of the agency office that protects his interests. He wanted to leave Russia for Pittsburgh, and he was able to do it.

- In your opinion, does it make sense for Magnitogorsk to sue the team of Mario Lemieux?
- They will sue the Americans. That's just what will be the result of this court case, now you will not be predicted by anyone. A year ago, Dynamo Moscow found itself in a similar situation, which until last day fought for her pupil Alexander Ovechkin. And what is the result? Muscovites lost this case.

– What is the way out of this situation?
- Sit down at the negotiating table and find a common language with the NHL. An agreement between the two parties is now vital.

- But if such an agreement is signed, then the club from Magnitogorsk will receive at least $ 200 thousand for the best pupil in the history of the club. Is this a normal price for a player of Malkin's caliber?
- $ 2 million for Malkin is quite normal money, but $ 200 thousand, of course, is not enough. I think that the price for each drafted player should be specified in the new contract.

- Gennady Velichkin gives analogies with, where Ukrainians received $ 25 million for the transfer of the same Shevchenko from Kyiv to Milan.
- I know Gennady Ivanovich as a serious and very thoughtful club leader, but here he went too far. Hockey still cannot compete with football in terms of money. How much money is made in football just from selling tickets to 80,000 stadiums during Champions League games and how much profit is made hockey teams, which come to see the strength of 15-20 thousand viewers? It's funny to compare, you see.

Waiting for a response from Columbus

– Your client Nikolai Zherdev is undergoing training at Chemist near Moscow. Is it possible to say that he will spend the upcoming season in the team of Petr Vorobyov?
- This will be the case, unless, of course, Columbus agrees to the conditions that we propose. Nikolay is not opposed to returning to Russia and playing here for one season. He is not at the age when the year of performances for Russian club able to interrupt his overseas career. But we are preparing defender Vadik Khomitsky to be sent to Dallas - he will compete for a place in the squad in the training camp. However, there is a possibility that he will return to Russia.

- Another client of yours, striker Alexei Shkotov, is also training in Mytishchi, who may well leave for America this season. What can you say about this player?
– The “St. Louis” have the opportunity to get such an extraordinary player in their team – I think they will take advantage of it.

- The vast majority of Russian hockey experts believe that your ward Sergei Zinoviev is currently one hundred percent ready to play overseas.
- I have no doubts that he is the best central striker in the Super League. I am sure that there are several teams in America that would be interested in his services. But so far, as far as I know, everything suits Sergey in Kazan.

Today in Ottawa, tomorrow in Novokuznetsk

- You have been living in Ottawa for several years now. Do hockey business on the inside Russian market not difficult?
“With today's technology, I can get the information I need in a matter of minutes. And if the need arises, I take a plane ticket and fly in the right direction. Now I flew to Moscow, flew to Novokuznetsk, where one of my clients signed a contract with the club, after which I'm going to Togliatti for the tournament.

- Do you skate on your own?
- Necessarily. I have my own goalkeeping school in Ottawa, where we train young goalkeepers. Last year they brought two guys from Russia.

– Do not you feel embarrassed by talks about the crisis of the goalkeeping genre in the Russian market?
- Talented boys were, are and will always be. Take Varlamov Semka from Yaroslavl. Or Ilya Proskuryakova from Magnitogorsk. And Galimov from Chelyabinsk and Bobrovsky from Novokuznetsk are on the way. But who will let them play now? Another thing pleases me - Vladislav Tretyak is now gradually taking on this problem, and I think he will put things in order.

Mikhail ARALOVETS

Chelyabinsk-Ottawa

Chelyabinsk sport has given the world many brilliant athletes - world and European champions, Olympic Games. Many of them left Chelyabinsk, ended their sports careers and now live in Moscow, Europe, the USA and Canada. Sports in most of them brought up strong, stubborn and self-sufficient people. Their career did not end after leaving the arena. They found themselves in other areas of human life, becoming authoritative and respected people. Chelyabinsk "stars" did not fade in the crucible of life's trials.

"Chelyabinsk Worker" decided to find the famous South Ural athletes who completed their sports careers and tell readers how their future fate turned out. Our first interlocutor was the goalkeeper of the Chelyabinsk "Tractor", CSKA and the USSR national team Alexander Tyzhnykh.

Alexander Tyzhnykh had a difficult fate in sports. Having moved at the age of 18 from Traktor to CSKA, he became an understudy for the great goalkeeper of the army Vladislav Tretiak. Being second always and everywhere, and even more so in sports, is psychologically very difficult. It seems to me that Tyzhnykh's career as a goalkeeper could have turned out differently if he hadn't been covered by Tretiak's back. Although the word failure is hardly appropriate here, because the Chelyabinsk citizen became the seven-time champion of the USSR, was involved in the national team, and participated in its composition in the 1984 Canada Cup. Many and many athletes could only dream of such a thing.

After finishing playing for CSKA in 1988, Tyzhnykh went overseas to Canada, where he left the media for a long time. They started talking about him again quite recently, in December last year, in connection with the scandalous case of the army striker Nikolai Zherdev, who arbitrarily left the army camp and moved to the National hockey league. As it turned out, Alexander Tyzhnykh represented the interests of young player in the NHL, that is, he was his agent.

The call from the Chelyabinsk Rabochy correspondent was a pleasant surprise for the ex-goalkeeper of CSKA and the national team, who now lives in Ottawa.

How did you find me? Tyzhnykh was surprised.

Through Moscow.

What, in Russia everything is still done through Moscow, even phones are recognized? - Alexander Vladimirovich laughed.

We have a few questions for you.

Yes, please, - the tone of the interlocutor is extremely friendly. - It is always a pleasure for me to communicate with fellow countrymen.

How did your fate develop after the end of your sports career?

In 1988 I finished playing for CSKA. Then in 1989 he played half a season in the Ufa "Salavat Yulaev" with Sergei Mikhalev. And then in September of the same year he left for a training camp (training camp) of the Canadian club "Edmonton Oilers", where he signed a contract. For two seasons he played for the farm club "oil workers". He finally hung up his skates in 1991.

And they stayed in Canada.

Yes. I opened a hockey school. I had about 400 children every summer. This is where he started his new life after the end of his hockey career. IN summer camp I invited leading hockey experts: Vladislav Tretyak, Vladimir Konstantinov, participant of the Super Series-72 Canada-USSR Peter Makhovlich and other "stars". Together with them, we worked with boys aged nine to 18. The training program included classes on the ground, on ice and theory. It was a kind of kindergarten - from 8 to 21 hours.

Where was your school located?

The same place where I played and ended my career. In the small Canadian town of Sydney, where the Edmonton Oilers farm club was based. Lived here for almost ten years. I had hockey schools in Halifax, which hosted the World Youth Championship last year, Compton and St. John's in Newfoundland. All this lasted about eight years, then I retrained - I became a hockey agent.

How did it happen? One day my student's parents asked me to represent their son. For me it was new job because it required serious legal knowledge. He began to cooperate with an agency firm, which was located in Ottawa, and soon moved to this city. I have been living here for five years.

Have you opened your own business?

Yes. Together with two more partners - Canadian lawyers.

What is the name of your company?

- Fideles Sports Management Group. In Russian "fideles" can be translated as honest, open.

Who from famous hockey players is your client?

Basically, all my wards are from Moscow. For example, Alexander Khavanov (plays for the NHL club "St. Louis Blues"), Nikolai Zherdev ("Columbus"). At the World Championships in Halifax, the company represented the interests of ten players of the Russian youth team. This is a record. Our wards are about 40 hockey players of the Russian Super League - from Nizhnekamsk, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Cherepovets, Kazan. For example, Konstantin Gorovikov (Severstal), Ruslan Nurdinov (Ak Bars).

Do you have players from Chelyabinsk, from the Urals?

Unfortunately, no one from Chelyabinsk.

Do you often visit Russia?

Often. I come to all kinds of tournaments, regional, youth and youth teams. I am very interested in this work. I want to help the boys, give them useful advice where to go to play, how to train, how to eat right. Agency activity is not only, as they often write, money, interest. It's all wrong, Michael. This is the same job as a journalist, a lawyer. And I like her. I myself went through everything that the boys are going through now.

Do you forget Chelyabinsk?

No. But it turns out that I come to my relatives, my mother. There is no time for work. Maybe that's why there are no wards in my hometown.

Alexander Vladimirovich, how is Nikolai Zherdev doing now, will it be possible to find a compromise on his case? Is it possible to return to Russia and play for the national team?

We rely on understanding. We do not want Russia to lose the player Zherdev. We want Nikolai to play both at the World Championships and at the Olympics. And he wants it himself. We suggested to the Russian Ice Hockey Federation that he come to the World Youth Championship in Finland. Made a Finnish visa. But they were refused.

We explained: let the guy play for now, but at this time, let's sit down at the negotiating table, try to find a compromise. But we failed to reach an agreement. An arbitration committee will be set up in Switzerland in March and, apparently, some decision will be made there. So now I can't say anything more. Call me at the beginning of March, I will give you full information about what happened there and how.

Thank you, Alexander Vladimirovich.

I was glad to have a talk with Chelyabinsk Rabochiy. Great newspaper, I always read it. Therefore, to all your readers, great success and health.

We are waiting for your visit.

Thank you Michael I will definitely come.
