Volleyball competitions at the Summer Olympics first appeared at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo and have since been included in the program of every subsequent Games.

History and competition system

Volleyball was recognized as an Olympic sport by the decision of the 53rd session of the International Olympic Committee, held in 1957 in Sofia. By this period, the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) united 115 national federations. Nevertheless, volleyball was not included in the program of the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome - it was too late to change the program and the competition calendar.

6 women's and 10 men's teams participated in the first Olympic volleyball tournament, later their number increased, which led to a change in the format of the Olympic tournaments: at the 1964 and 1968 Games, competitions were held in a round robin system, since 1972, knockout matches (play-outs) were introduced. off, or the Olympic system).

By 1996, the number of participants in the Olympic tournaments was increased to 12 and a new qualification system for the Games was introduced. The selection is made on the basis of the results of the previous World Cup draws, continental and world qualifying tournaments.

Olympic tournaments are held for men's and women's teams according to the same scheme, which provides for games strictly every other day and includes two stages: first, the participants of the competition play in a round robin system in two groups (A and B), then the teams that take 1-4th places in groups play in a system with elimination, starting from the quarter-finals. There are no qualifying matches at the Olympic Games: quarter-final losers are ranked 5th, teams A and B fifth are classified in 9th, outsiders group stage- in 11th place.

Beach volleyball was present at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona as a demonstration sport, on September 24, 1993, at the 101st session of the International Olympic Committee in Monte Carlo, it was recognized as an Olympic sport and made its debut in the competitive program at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. Male and women's tournaments in this discipline began to be carried out simultaneously.

As in classical volleyball, tournaments consist of a group stage and a playoff. They involve 24 teams (no more than two from one country), which include the team of the host country, current world champions (since 2015), 15 leaders of the rating International Federation volleyball, 5 Continental Cup winners and 2 World Cup final teams.

A game on a sand court divided by a net, in which two teams on opposite sides of the net throw the ball over the net with their hands in order to land it in their own half and prevent the ball from falling in their own half of the court. The team has 2 players. There are no replacements. The winning team is the one that wins 2 out of 3 sets. The first 2 sets are played up to at least 21 points, the third, decisive set - up to 15 points. A team wins a set if it is 2 or more points ahead of the opponent. A point is awarded after each ball is played. The team that won the point in the previous rally serves the ball. The ball may touch the net while serving. After the team has touched the ball 3 times, the ball must go to the other half of the court - to the opponents. One player is not allowed to touch the ball 2 times in a row, except when a block is made. A block in beach volleyball, unlike volleyball, counts as a touch on the ball. The size of the playing field is 8×16 meters. Players switch courts after every 7 innings in the first two sets, and after every 5 innings in the third set. The maximum allowable pause between ball rallies is 12 seconds. Each team is entitled to one 30 second time-out per set. In the first two sets, there is a 30-second technical break after every 21 balls. Break between sets - 60 seconds. The ball must not be picked up or thrown by hand. Players must not touch the net with their body. Net height: 2.24 meters for women's teams, 2.43 meters for men's.

The duration of the game is on average 40 minutes. Beach volleyball requires special athleticism and endurance, in addition, beach volleyball players must be versatile - in this sport, players are rarely divided into roles.

Beach volleyball: description, history, rules, equipment

Beach volleyball - olympic look sports, sports team game with a ball on a sandy area divided high mesh, the purpose of which is to direct the ball towards the opponent in such a way that it lands in the opponent's half or to cause an error on the part of a player of the opposing team.

The International Volleyball Federation (from the French Fédération Internationale de Volleyball, abbr. FIVB) is an international federation that unites 220 national federations. The headquarters is located in the Swiss city of Lausanne.

The history of the emergence and development of beach volleyball

Beach volleyball originated in the early 1920s on the beaches of California (USA). In 1927, beach volleyball was introduced to Europe, first in France and then in Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia and Latvia.

First official tournament beach volleyball was held in the United States in 1947, after which the game began to gain popularity and almost equaled surfing.

The California Beach Volleyball Association was formed in 1965 and developed the first beach volleyball rules. In 1983, the Association of Professional Volleyball Players (AVP) was formed.

In 1986, beach volleyball received the status international type sports, and in 1987 in Rio de Janeiro the first, not yet official, world championship was held. The first official championship was held only in 1997 in Los Angeles.

In 1996, beach volleyball made its debut at the Olympic Games in Atlanta (USA).

Beach volleyball rules (briefly)

Consider briefly the rules of the game of beach volleyball. Immediately make a reservation that the rules in beach volleyball are the same for men and women. Teams in beach volleyball consist of two people, if one of the players is injured and cannot continue the game, then this team is considered defeated.

Teams play the serve in turn, with the first team serving until they forfeit the right to serve due to a loss of a point or an error. After the team plays the serve again, another player serves, etc.

A beach volleyball match consists of two games, the score of which goes up to 21 points. If the game reaches the third set, then the score is kept up to 15 points. To win in each of the games, a score difference of at least two points is required. Teams switch sides more often than in normal volleyball. The change of sides occurs after every seven points in the first two sets, and every five points in the third.

Rules for receiving the ball: in beach volleyball, the ball can be hit with any part of the body, but players of the same team can touch the ball no more than three times, after which they must return it to the side of the enemy.

Players receive warnings for rule violations or inappropriate behavior ( yellow card), remarks (red card), removal (red and yellow card at the same time, means defeat in the game) or disqualification (red and yellow card at the same time in different hands, means defeat in the match).

Beach volleyball court

The beach volleyball court measures 16 meters long and 8 meters wide. The site is covered with sand to a depth of at least 40 cm and is divided into two equal parts by a grid. The net in the men's beach volleyball is at a height of 2.43 meters, and in the women's at a height of 2.24 meters.

The marking of the volleyball court is carried out using 5 cm tapes, which are fastened with metal pegs or special wooden discs.

Outfit and equipment for beach volleyball

The beach volleyball ball is slightly larger than its classic counterpart (66-68 cm), and the pressure in it, on the contrary, is less. The ball must be brightly colored.

Beach volleyball equipment consists of shorts or bathing suits, without any shoes on the feet.

Refereeing

Refereeing in beach volleyball is carried out with the help of two main referees, one of whom (the first) ensures that technique during the game were performed in accordance with the rules. He can also correct the decisions of the second referee.

The second referee watches the play at the net and at middle line, as well as the behavior of coaches and substitutes, provides comprehensive assistance to the first referee. In addition to the main judges, there are line judges on the field.

Competitions

The Olympic Games is the most prestigious international beach volleyball championship, held every four years.

Beach Volleyball World Championship - international competitions which are held under the auspices of the International Volleyball Federation.

The European Championship is a competition between European national teams, which is held under the auspices of the European Volleyball Confederation.

Olympic Games 2016. Rio de Janeiro. Beach volleyball / Beach volleyball

Today kick off the first matches at the Olympic Games in Rio. 24 teams from 15 countries of the world, including two Russian couples, will take part in the men's part of the beach volleyball competition. Games at the "beachers" will be held from 6 to 18 August. Virtually all matches will take place on Center Court, a huge temporary stadium on Copacabana Beach for 12,000 spectators, specially built for the Olympic Games.

Tournament Format Teams that take the first two places in their groups go directly to the "Round 16". Also included are two best couples of all those who took third place in their groups. The remaining four couples, who became third in the group stage, play for two more tickets to the Round of 16. The teams then play knockout. In the men's standings, our country is represented by two teams - Konstantin Semenov and Vyacheslav Krasilnikov, who qualified for the tournament through the World Tour, as well as Nikita Lyamin and Dmitry Barsuk, who received their license through the World Continental Cup.

The group draw took place on 9 July. According to the rules, couples from the same country could not get into the same group, so all double teams must be separated.

Pool A Alison/Bruno Schmidt BRA Ranghieri/Carambula ITA Doppler/Horst AUT Binstock/Schachter CAN

One of the strongest groups. The Brazilians certainly look like the favorites here, but, as the last pre-Olympic tournaments have shown, it is possible to beat them, but so far the statistics speak in favor of Alison and Bruno, of all the rivals in this group, only Doppler and Horst were able to beat the Brazilians, once in 2015.

Pool B Brouwer/Meeuwsen NED Losiak/Kantor POL Böckermann/Flüggen GERBarsouk/Liamin ENG

Our guys have a working group, all the couples are well acquainted and even beaten. The Dutch seem to be the favorites, they were in second place in the Olympic rankings at the end of the selection. But the Olympics is a special tournament and the one who has stronger nerves will win here. If the guys calmly play their game, don't forget about speed, they will be able to get out of the group without additional play-offs.

Pool C Lucena/Dalhausser USA Nicolai/Lupo ITA Virgen/Ontiveros MEX Naceur. Ma/Belhai. C TUN

Here, the Americans look like the favorites, but it was the Italians who knocked them out with last Olympics in London and together with the Mexicans have already beaten them on the World Tour this season. Tunisians are completely unknown and it is impossible to predict how they will perform.

Pool D Pedro Solberg/Evandro BRA Samoilovs/Smedins J. LAT Schalk/Saxton CAN Diaz/Gonzalez CUB

Interesting group. Although the Brazilians are higher in the Olympic rankings, the Latvians periodically beat them at the stages of the World Tour. And the Cubans, although they do not play in such tournaments, have 8 gold medals at the NORCECA Beach Tour.

Olympic Games - 2016. Handball players in the final! Results of the day

We conducted an online broadcast of the 13th day of the Olympics. The most interesting events, photos, messages from social networks and confessions of the heroes of the Games!

brazilian Agatha and Barbara lost gold medals to the Germans Laure Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst, a Larissa and Talita failed to take bronze in the match with Kerry Walsh/April Ross. This day of endless Brazilian grief for their volleyball women (a day earlier, the women's volleyball team also left the Olympic tournament classical volleyball) is finally completed. The day of decisive matches for men has come: in the "golden" battle of the men's Olympic beach volleyball tournament, the favorites of the public should meet Alison/Bruno and Italian offenders of Russian couples Daniele Lupo and Paolo Nicolai.

But the Russian fan was much more worried about the match for bronze medals - for the first time in the history of beach volleyball, a domestic couple had every chance of winning awards. and could have played for gold - their own mistakes, backed up by an amazing

work of referees in the semi-final meeting with the Italians. Be that as it may, Slava and Kostya are worthy contenders for bronze. The Russian duet had a very even tournament, having lost only one game in almost two weeks - the same semi-final, a pair from Italy.

Krasilnikov and Semyonov did not force events and did not waste emotions in vain - in matches, even with venerable rivals, if it turned out, they did not gush with courage and mood, they cherished adrenaline. Flying through the group in one breath, from the first place went to the playoffs - the Poles were defeated Grzegorz Fialek/Mariusz Prudel, Dutch Reidner Nummerdor/Christian Warenhorst, Chileans Esteban Grimalt/Marco Grimalt. 1/8 final match with a couple from Qatar - Jefferson/Sheriff- and did seem to be a reference in terms of tactics, technique and psychological readiness of both the experienced Konstantin and the debutant of the Olympic Games Vyacheslav.

Olympic Games. Rio de Janeiro, August 18
Beach volleyball. Men.
Match for 3rd place

Krasilnikov / Semyonov (Russia) - Brower / Meuvsen (Netherlands) - 0:2 (21:23, 20:22).

The decoration of not only the path of our couple, but the entire tournament was the quarterfinal duel with the Cuban duo - Nivaldo Diaz and Sergio Gonzalez. In addition to representatives of the two Americas, few could boast of a close acquaintance with the game of these guys - Cubans do not participate in the World Tour. And at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Diaz and Gonzalez went over their rivals with a skating rink. But they ran into resistance from the Russians. An incredible match, Krasilnikov's desperate feats on defense and Semyonov on the block - three games, none of which met the points limit (22:20, 22:24, 18:16), and Vyacheslav and Konstantin, who went all out, in semi-finals. After this massacre with the Cubans (it is difficult to call that meeting in another way) Russian couple no longer held back emotions - we could not hold back either. It was so powerful and so desperately beautiful!

And then ... Lupo and Nikolai ended up in the final, and Semyonov and Krasilnikov went out to fight for bronze medals with the Dutch Alexander Brower and Robert Meeuvsen, the second seeded of the Olympic tournament. The 2013 world champions also lost their semi-final in three games, although they had less chance of winning it. Brower and Meuvsen outright lost the first set to Brazilian favorites Alison and Bruno and lost the second - the hosts had three match points! At that moment, an insight descended on the Dutch, and the Brazilians suddenly decided to count the local crows - as a result, they had to play tie-

The Russian duo had a very even tournament, losing only one game in almost two weeks - the semi-final to the Italian pair.

break. In an already absolutely equal fight, the Brazilians turned out to be a little more even, more accurate and more successful. And now Mammoth Alison (that's what they call him in the "beach" world, although, in the author's humble opinion, this guy looks more like a bear) burrows almost completely into the sand. Apparently, trying to cool the heat caused by the victory.

The beginning of the match turned out to be equal: the Russian duet had better defense, the Dutch one had a serve and a block. Due to the masterful introduction of the ball into the game rivals Krasilnikov and Semyonov earn the first small gap – 7:4. By the next change of sides, the Russians caught up - Konstantin looked great on the block, and it was with this element of the game that our pair earned two break balls. By the middle of the game, Semyonov and Krasilnikov took the lead - 17:15: it was the Dutch who began to make inaccuracies, while Slava and Kostya tried to turn the momentum up to the limit. As a result, they themselves could not stand this pace - they lost two set points on the serve of Meeuvsen and lost the game in an equal game on the balance sheet - 21:23.

And immediately after the start of the second set, it started to rain, and the small drops falling on the sand of Copacabana, alas, also played against ours - and it was already difficult for them. Brower and Meuvsen already at the start of the set secured the advantage with a block, not allowing the slightest mistake in the attack. And they did not allow Semyonov and Krasilnikov to get closer – 12:9. The situation developed according to the scenario of the first set, but exactly the opposite: the Dutch couple had set points (or rather, already match points). There were many more - as many as three. On Krasilnikov's innings, the score equalized - Vyacheslav was much more aggressive than in the whole match, putting the ball into play. What prevented you from starting to do this earlier, Slava? So, 20:20 - Alexander and Robert did not raise an eyebrow. Krasilnikov simplified the next serve, they accepted it and literally knocked the ball into the Russian side of the site. And the matchball realized with the umpteenth attempt was really offensive - I made a mistake on the transfer.

The first Olympic medal in beach volleyball is still a Russian dream: Semyonov and Krasilnikov got closer to it than all current and retired athletes. I hope their path will lead them to Olympic history- already in Tokyo 2020.
