Scars, cuts and bruises are unlikely, since the legs of the girls are usually long - they are used in kickboxing for protection. Therefore, kickboxing is an activity for girls of not the smallest stature. In addition, there are restrictions on body shots.

There is only one main difference in boxing for men and women - it consists in the mandatory wearing of special protectors on the chest.

Kickboxing, in addition to the ability to stand up for yourself, teaches concentration, attentiveness, trains the reaction. And these are very useful skills not only within the walls of the gym, but also in the real world.

Bruises, injuries and other fears

It's no secret that Muay Thai is a contact sport and comes with a risk of injury. However, none of the girls expressed fear or doubt about it. And to be honest, we do not remember the case that any of the girls received any serious injury in training. Bruises - yes, it happens sometimes, but no more. Martial arts in this case can be compared with reading books, when at first glance it seems like a tedious, difficult and useless task, but it is worth making an effort of will, reading the first few pages, and an interesting and fascinating world opens up before you.

The goal of martial arts is not always fierce fights in the ring and winning championship belts. It is rather a way of life that brings pleasure, health and harmony to the life of an athlete, giving motivation and strength to achieve goals in everyday life: at work, in school, family, etc. Thai boxing brings up, first of all, the spirit of a person, which is the source of happiness and well-being. I fell in love with my first Muay Thai training. The body said, "Yo baby, we need it!" and we stayed. But I will probably be the last person to recommend going to Muay Thai for a woman.

1. Muay Thai is not a fight, but a sport. To think that thanks to training you will be able to resist an inadequate man is a big illusion. In my opinion, this becomes (theoretically) possible after a few fights, when the body starts to react faster than the head. If the task is to learn how to defend yourself, it makes sense to go to specialized self-defense classes.

2. Muay Thai changes the body. From high-intensity loads the chest leaves (after a series of strokes, my pulse sometimes reaches 220 beats per minute). Just as those who lose weight keep “jeans of shame” as a keepsake, so a woman has a “box of crying”.

Pop leaves. Oddly enough, but the body considers the protruding fifth point for combat to be an absolutely superfluous, even annoying, detail. The butt becomes elastic, but shallow.

3. Muay Thai is an expense. First, to the hall. Muay Thai is pair sports and it is vital a) good coach a) a partner slightly superior to you in level. I am (so far) lucky: I have both in one place.

Second, equipment costs. At first glance, you need a little: the usual elastic form and gloves. But this is only at first glance.

Leatherette gloves fly apart in three months. With the increasing force of the blow, there is a need for bandages. The bag is needed not for the uti-way, but for which these very gloves will fit. Well, pads / stockings are sometimes also very handy.

Thirdly, it is the cost of food. As I already said, the loads (unless, of course, you don’t idle) are quite high and the power needs to be completely rebuilt. We need protein, we need vitamins - and good ones and a lot.

4. Muay Thai is bruising. On the legs, on the arms, on the thighs and in the place of the anterior bones of the pelvis (iliac bones). Moreover, it will most likely be bruises a) large b) passing just enough so that you have time to enjoy the palette of interchangeable colors.

5. Muay Thai is a limitation in female beauty. Extended nails with rhinestones? Forgot! Eyelashes 2 cm? Forgot! Nose fillers, cheekbones? Forgot! Unless, of course, after a missed blow, you don’t want to find the fillers that have moved out somewhere behind the ear))

6. Muay Thai is about time. The training lasts 1.5 hours. But very soon you realize that in order for you to get what you want to do, this time is catastrophically short. Even if you practice three times a week. And even if four. Three is the base that the coach gives. The fourth is the independent development of equipment: no one will give you a shell for an hour for sole use. Plus, you need running (for breathing) and stretching (and how without it?). How much is left for personal life and all sorts of movie dominoes figured out?

7. Muay Thai is painful. It just hurts and the gong hasn't rung yet. And we must continue.
Of course, not everyone falls in love with Muay Thai enough to change their lives.

And if you still want it, then where?

I know that there are mixed groups (men + women) and pure groups (men / women). I am engaged in mixed and the second time I would go to the same.

Firstly, to engage among men (no matter how skeptical they are about your attempts) - it makes a lot of sense: this unique opportunity to see them "as is" - in their strength and their weakness. It was during training that I can say I fell in love with men as a species.

Secondly, this is the bar set by men. If there are fist-clapping push-ups around you, it's just a shame not to do at least 10-15 regular ones.

Thirdly, "norm" in the mixed group is the norm for men. For women, of course, it decreases slightly, but it decreases relative to the same men, which means that for women it remains slightly higher than the female one.

Fourth, sometimes the partner does not come, and then you find yourself paired with a man.

  1. Muay Thai is an opportunity (with impunity) to hit a person)). I find it very important to be able to do things that are socially discouraged. For example, lie, steal, and yes, beat people. Because life is rich in shades, nuances and situations, and it may well happen that the asocial choice will be the least energy-consuming and this will be critical. And you - oops - you can't.
  1. Muay Thai is about focusing on moving forward. In my opinion, experience in ordinary life comes rather slowly. More precisely, "lyuli" arrive quickly, but the opportunity to do otherwise may not come soon. In Muay Thai, you come out of every sparring with a bunch of “ticks”: it doesn’t work here, it flew here. And in a day you have the opportunity (to try) to do otherwise.
  1. Muay Thai is a constant readiness for the new. You can kill yourself by honing your technique on projectiles. You can wipe the monitor to the holes while viewing training and real fights. But here a living person stands in front of you and all the blanks crumble into dust: the partner does not at all what you so carefully prepared for.

Even sparring takes a small amount of time, and fights are very rare. And for the sake of this "rarely" so plowed in training, IMHO, is a bad thing. I asked those who speak: why do they need it? And no one told me about the medals.

A girl, by definition, is weaker than any of the most novice male beginners, at first she doesn’t succeed in the simplest things, you can’t spur her on with obscenities, she can be offended and cry for a joke, she can get a bruise from any poke when demonstrating the exercise and this can be a problem. In addition, it is worth finding out whether the coach has the ability to explain the same thing in different ways. different people, without losing patience, because from time to time you will be stupid mercilessly.

Partner

If the group is mixed (men + women), it is important to find out if any of the women go to classes on a regular basis. Muay Thai is a pair sport, but to stand in sparring with a man, albeit one weight class- not the most, in my opinion, a good moment.

Both of you will be afraid of doing something wrong (he - hitting the chest, you - not lifting the knee high enough when hitting the solar plexus) - as a result, neither will work at full strength.

Equipment

The usual equipment for the class: boxing gloves, T-shirt, leggings or special "Thai" shorts. In my opinion, you can come to the first training session in anything, as long as it does not hinder movement, and especially, does not interfere with raising your legs, but at the same time does not distract the male half from work. Many girls come to the hall to show what they have excellent figure and find yourself young man, strong and courageous. There is nothing wrong with this and often it happens, but you still need to be politically correct towards the coach, the process and those around you, after all, people have ordinary human desires))

It makes no sense to buy gloves for the first lesson (and for the second one). Anyway, for the first or second time, in addition to OFP (general physical training), the coach will give basic punches and kicks in the air for familiarization.

Shoes are not needed for training at all - classes are held barefoot or in socks. It is better to choose sports socks - they fit well on the leg and do not slip from lifting onto the fingers and from turning the legs.

Plus, you definitely need to take water with you (preferably in double the amount than for already familiar workouts), and a small towel to wipe sweat.

After workout

It is necessary to provide an opportunity to have a snack after class. Training (even the first one) will be very intense, with a high heart rate, from which the muscles can “burn”. In order to prevent this, it is advisable to eat (protein + carbohydrates) 30-40 minutes after the end of the workout.

If at this time you, with a sense of accomplishment, will carry your tired, but contented carcass home, then along the way you can just hamster protein bar with a protein index in the region of 50-60%.
